Ambiano Electric Mini Food Chopper

Rachael Aldi Finds (Special Buys)

Over the years, I’ve collected an assortment of kitchen gadgets from Aldi. My family’s favorite is the Ambiano Air Fryer, but we also regularly use our toaster oven, slow cooker, waffle maker, and stand mixer from Aldi.

Another gadget that can be helpful during meal prep is a food chopper. I have owned a few non-electric food choppers, but they don’t always work well and can be a hassle to clean between the blades. So when Aldi sold an electric mini food chopper in March of 2022, I decided to give it a try.

The Ambiano Electric Mini Food Chopper cost $9.99 at the time of publication.

This is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time, and Aldi won’t ship it to you once it sells out at your local store.

The box indicates this device is useful for chopping fruits, vegetables, bread crumbs, and herbs and spices. It can also be used to make dips and sauces.

The back of the box. (Click to enlarge.)

Here’s more information on the food chopper:

  • Chop, dice, mince, and shred easily and effortlessly
  • 1.5-cup capacity
  • One-touch activation and pulse control
  • Includes stainless steel blade, clear plastic bowl, non-slip base, and safety lid
  • Available in Blue or Black
  • Made in China

The mini food chopper comes with a three-year warranty serviced by Wachsmuth & Krogmann, a common Aldi warranty service provider. For service, call 1-888-367-7373 or email [email protected]

What comes in the box: the food chopper, a manual, and a warranty information sheet.

To use the chopper, place the base on a flat, level, stable surface and plug it into an electrical outlet. Place the bowl on the base unit over the center stem, lining up with the notches on the base. Slide the blade down over the center column of the bowl, being careful not to touch the blades because they’re sharp. Place the lid on the bowl. The manual says to line up the lid with the base by turning the lid clockwise until it is in place, but the lid on my unit doesn’t turn; it simply rests on top of the bowl and base.

The lid, bowl, and blade of the chopper are dishwasher safe, but the base needs to be wiped by hand with a damp cloth, sponge, or paper towel. Never immerse the food chopper base into water.

The manual offers a few tips and some safety advice for using the chopper:

  • Never run the chopper for longer than 30 seconds, and wait one minute to start again.
  • Make sure hands are dry when plugging in and uplugging the cord.
  • Do not use the food chopper to crush ice, coffee beans, or similar hard substances as this can damage the blade.
  • If food seems to be chopped unevenly, make sure the bowl is not overloaded and that pieces are small enough. Try chopping a smaller amount or make sure pieces are cut smaller and are similar in size.
  • If food seems to be watery or too fine, the food may have been over chopped. Make sure to use brief pulses for a shorter time, making sure the blade stops completely between pulses.
  • If food collects on the lid and/or sides of the bowl, you may be chopping too much food at one. Turn the machine off, make sure the blade has completely stopped, remove the lid, and clean the bowl and lid with a spatula.
  • If food catches on the blade, you may be chopping too much food. Turn the chopper off, making sure the blade has completely stopped, then remove the lid and scrape the blade with a spatula before starting again.

The various components of the food chopper, including the bowl, base, blade, and lid.

I initially tried chopping some onions in this food chopper. I chopped an onion into pieces that were roughly 1/2 an inch, then placed half of the chopped onion into the food chopper. The pulsing button is very sensitive to slight touches once the lid is placed on the unit, and it doesn’t take much pressure to activate the motor and turn the blades.

Onions in the electric mini food chopper.

The chopper made quick work of my onion. It’s helpful to have a mini spatula or other utensil nearby so you can periodically stop the chopper, remove the lid, and scrape food bits off the side of the bowl for further chopping. It didn’t take long to get finely diced onions bits perfect for using in chili, salsa, breakfast burritos, or whatever you want to make. This is also a handy gadget for dicing onions to serve on top of hot dogs or chili.

A look inside.

Cleanup was a cinch, especially because all of the components except the base are dishwasher safe. I opted to wash the bowl, blades, and lid by hand. They were much easier to wash than my older manual choppers that have more crevices where food can get stuck.

I also later chopped some baby carrots that I pre-cut into chunks, and the chopper handled them fine. I’m looking forward to using this mini food chopper more, and I’ll update this post if necessary with any new developments.

The Verdict:

The Ambiano Electric Mini Food Chopper is a helpful kitchen gadget if you want to chop small amounts of veggies, fruit, or other foods. It’s easy to use, with one-touch operation, and it’s also easy to clean. The three-year warranty is a nice bonus.

ALDI LAUNCHES BABY BLENDER NEARLY 50% CHEAPER THAN NUTRIBULLET IN BABY & TODDLER EVENT!

Supermarket Aldi’s highly anticipated Baby & Toddler Specialbuy event is back, starring the unmissable Ambiano Baby Food Nutrient Blender for only £29.99!  Comparable to and at nearly half the price of the Nutribullet Baby Food Processor (£58.00), savvy shoppers can prepare for feeding time without spending a fortune. The blender is ideal for making those first foods and it means that baby can pretty much eat what you are.

I always found this helped with weaning as they were getting used to the flavours you eat as a family from the start. I used to blend up a roast dinner, portion it and it would last the baby for a few meals. It is a cheaper way to feed the baby to rather buying lots of jars.

The Aldi event is always super popular and new parents can make great savings by stocking up during these events. In my opinion, Aldi has just got better and better. The new stores look fab and I forget they are a ‘budget supermarket’ until I get to the till and realise how much I have saved. We have a new store being built very near to my home and I can’t wait to see it completed.

Here’s some more of Aldi’s top picks from this August’s Specialbuy event

Baby Snuggle Nest (19.99)

The popular Snuggle Nest is back at Aldi this August, with a new shape for 2018. At just £19.99,  Aldi’s Baby Snuggle Nest is 60% cheaper than the Poddle Pod. The cushioned nest recreates the feeling of being cuddled, making nap time, comfy and cosy for your little one, so you can take a well-deserved break. With a carry handle for easy transportation and a slip resistant base, it’s perfect for supervised naps that cradle your little tot while they snooze. Suitable for babies 0-6 months of age and machine washable!

Moses Basket and Stand Bundle (£29.99)

The perfect bed for your little one, with its comfy and stylish design. The basket is sold complete with a padded, breathable mattress and quilt and the pine wood stand can be folded for easy portability and storage. Pop the adjustable hood up to create a cosy nap space for your baby.

As well as the bigger nursery items there are also lots of smaller essentials available. I think this dinner set that I was sent is super cute. The night light is just £6.99 and would look good in any stylish nursery.

Then there are the basics like muslins and bibs. Muslin cloths are just something that no new parents should try and live without! They are ideal as burp cloths, perfect for catching sick (I got really good at that) and moping up spills. They now come in a variety of colours and fun designs – check out the pineapples with sunglasses!

The Aldi Special Event can be found online from the 12th August or in store on 16th August. To take advantage of these amazing Baby & Toddler Specialbuy deals, but be quick, as with all Specialbuys – once they’re gone they’re gone! What will you be buying?

Thermomix - an innovative food processor

"Partner" No. 3 (234) 2017

Thermomix and company

New products and services

This is really a new product. Most often, the author of this column writes about new products known to him personally, taking into account his own experience. But not in this case: I don’t have a thermomix and, most likely, I never will, unless they give it. But this is by no means anti-advertising, we, relying mainly on the German press, will try to objectively evaluate this latest development. nine0004

Designed by Vorwerk from Wuppertal, best known for its vacuum cleaners. But do not be surprised that you have not seen these vacuum cleaners in stores: Vorwerk has a special model for selling its products - through intermediaries, agents, distributors, but not through stores and not via the Internet.

This is the Thermomix , an innovative food processor already distributed in 50 countries. Many thousands of company representatives make home visits, arrange a kind of culinary performance, the main purpose of which is to convince participants of the usefulness of the product. This distribution model is the main one for a number of companies, for example, AMC, a dishware manufacturer, or Amway, a manufacturer of chemical concentrates. It may not be as effective in the age of the Internet, but Vorwerk thrives with its device. In 2016, 1.35 million of these cars were sold through the efforts of 16,000 representatives. nine0004

Thermix TM 5

What is a kitchen miracle that costs (for the most advanced TM5 model) at least 1199 euros? This, according to the manufacturer, is an equivalent replacement for all kitchen appliances at once, when they write "10 in one". I mean typical kitchen operations, each of which requires a separate appliance, space on the stove, etc., and here there is only one relatively compact machine. nine0004

The Thermomix is a perfect food processor with a heating function, its modern model replaces up to 12 kitchen appliances. The very idea of combining typical mixing-grinding operations with the actual preparation of ready-made food was patented 50 years ago, since then the device has been constantly improved, but the distribution model has not changed.

So, all processes take place in one container, Thermomix weighs, mixes, grinds, shreds, purees, emulsifies, heats in a closed space or steam, washes itself. All this is either automatically in accordance with the selected program, thousands of recipes are available, or in manual control mode. Cooking programs are on an electronic chip, all information is displayed on a color touch screen - everything is at the level of modern smartphones and other "smart" devices. nine0004

Krups Prep&Cook

All that remains for the owner of the miracle machine is to fill the container and nozzles on top with the original products and press the "Start" button, the machine does everything by itself, quickly, efficiently: guaranteed that nothing won't overcook or burn. The capacity is about two liters, not for a large family, of course, but where are the big families now? You don’t have to cook for several days at once - simplicity, speed and economy allow you to enjoy a new dish every day . .. and so on for more than one year. And all this with a single appliance in the entire kitchen, occupying an area of approximately 33x33 cm.

Cooking all kinds of food, solids and liquids (soups, sauces, juices and smoothies), dietary, low-carb, vegan, baby food, breads, pastries... you name it.

Here it is appropriate to recall that you are reading after all not an advertisement, but an objective review, so let's turn to the minuses of the above miracle.

First of all, price is , 1200 euros - for that kind of money you can buy a stove with an oven, a microwave oven, a couple of different mixers, pots and pans ... and there will still be a few recipe books left. nine0004

Secondly, don’t flatter yourself, even though a million recipes will be offered for the Thermomix, but truly cooked steak will not be among them (however, let’s be objective, grilling on the Thermomix is still possible, and sauces for grilling are excellent).

Thirdly, one breakdown, and they are inevitable (there is equipment, especially such a complex one), is enough to leave you hungry until you get a replacement or repair it under warranty. nine0004

There are a lot of tests and reviews of Thermomix and similar devices, and among the shortcomings they usually also list grinding noise (up to an almost unbearable 102 decibels).

The Thermomix is essentially an advanced hybrid of a slow cooker and a food processor. We still have not written about multicookers, and in Germany they have not found much use, in Russia, for example, they are better known and popular. The Multicoocer can also cook a variety of dishes, and they originated, I suspect, from electric rice cookers. Indeed, all these devices cook rice wonderfully, including pilaf and risotto. In the case of the Italian risotto popular in Germany, the advantages of the Thermomix are realized to the fullest extent, because it requires a long mixing during the heating process. nine0004

One of the “cheap” harvesters

And the eternal question arises: is it possible to do the same, but cheaper. Can! In the discounter Netto, for example, in February there was a special offer: for 100 euros they sold Thermo-Multikocher Gourmetmaxx, which replaces nine kitchen appliances, mixes or grinds at a speed of 180-4500 rpm, heats up to a temperature of 120 degrees. But this is a special offer, and usually cheap Thermomix analogues cost about 200 euros. nine0004

There is a curious case when a similar car was “thrown away” in many branches of Aldi-Süd at a price of 199 euros: people went on the assault, crowds, fights, police ... By the way, you could easily order from Aldi on the Internet. And no sooner had it been sold than it immediately appeared on eBay for almost twice as much.

The phrase “thermomix-mania” has already slipped through the press, that is, for some, Thermomix has become a status object (I have it, but you don’t, which means I’m more successful, richer, in a word, cooler). For the same reason, there is a hype around cheap Thermomix clones: to show that, they say, we are no worse, we also have it, and what is cheaper, so we just don’t throw money down the drain. Such a psychology of buyers, their motivation is described in sufficient detail by specialists, marketers and psychologists, but writers did not pass by either, remember Ellochka the cannibal with her Mexican jerboa. nine0004

So, at the top of the pyramid of universal kitchen machines, the Thermomix color display proudly shines, at the bottom - about a dozen of its inexpensive analogues of the brands Clatronic, Medion, Gourmetmaxx, Silvercrest, Severin ... There is also a middle - these are machines of reputable companies, they have been producing equipment of this kind for a long time, these are not copies of Thermomix, but independent developments. We mention, for example, Krups Prep&Cook (about 700 euros) and KitchenAid ARTISAN Cook Processor, Kenwood Cooking Chef, Jupiter Mycook, costing about 900 euro each. Of course, these prices are not fixed, like with Thermomix, you can make a good purchase and save a few hundred, but you can stumble upon a clone masquerading as the original when buying online. Moreover, these combines are quite competitive with Thermomix, some even surpass it in some way. For example, Supercook SC110, which also costs a lot, about 1000 euros, has, among other things, a removable control unit that looks like a smartphone, with a color display and the ability to update the recipe bank from the manufacturer's website. There is no doubt that the next step in the development of this type of kitchen appliances will be their integration via WLAN into the home network and Internet access (following refrigerators and other "smart" appliances). nine0004

Do modern kitchens need such appliances? A lot depends on whose kitchen it is. Bachelors and small families do not spend a lot of time and energy on cooking, just they could establish a full and varied diet with the help of such kitchen wagons, especially in the middle of the working week.
