Both my girls, 3 and 1, love dolls, and love babies. They have a collection of babies including a few Baby Alive dolls. They do have a favourite baby who has her own cradle and gets tucked in to sleep, pushed around in a stroller and generally cared for. Some of the babies can eat and expel but since the girls are young, and messy in general, I don’t usually let them play that way.
That is what I love about Baby Alive Super Snacks Snackin’ Sara Doll. She is a cute little baby doll who loves to be fed snacks. She comes with reusable doll food (play-doh), shaping tools, a plate and a pretend juice box. She also comes with 2 diapers to catch the food she expels but using them is fairly optional. She has made little to no mess, aside from the time my 1 year old smooshed the “food” into her mouth and really packed it in. (This doll is meant for 3+ so this was definitely a parenting issue and not a toy issue.) There is a panel at the back of her head you can unscrew and that makes cleaning up this kind of mess super easy.
Basically kids can use the shaping tools to make snacks to feed the Snackin’ Sara doll. The doll speaks in either English or French (in the USA she speaks Spanish instead of French), and she can say when she is hungry, sleepy or full.
My 3 year old has had no issue with shaping the food to the right thickness after I showed her how to do it. She was trying at first to jam the food in the dolls mouth but that was something else that was easy to correct by simply demonstrating how to carefully put the food in the dolls mouth enough for the doll to eat the food.
When she is full you simply remove the diaper which is filled with the previously made food. There is no mess at all inside the doll or in the diaper. The juice box does not get filled with water or pretend juice, she simply “drinks” from the straw when it is placed in her mouth It’s nice and clean play which is great for younger kids.
I do usually read Amazon reviews before I finalise my reviews in case I have missed on details or had a different experience so I can test the product again. I noticed many have said their child was scared by the toy (a 6 year old even?!) and that was absolutely not the case in our experience. My 3 year old is afraid of literally everything and she was not frightened by Snackin’ Sara at all. My 1 year old has no fear so her reaction isn’t really an indicator. I mean she thinks its funny to hide in dark rooms and jump out yelling boo. No fear at all.
The girls absolutely love Snackin’ Sara though and were actually thrilled by her noises and even more so by her movement right from the start. You can see in the pictures that Keira, my 3 year old, was absolutely excited and happy to be playing with her. They were only put off when I said her name was Sara and they both insisted that no, she was not in fact Auntie Sarah. I guess they have yet to realised that names are not unique.
Others also complained that it was messy but as I’ve said, I found this doll to be the cleanest of their eating/expelling action baby dolls. There is no mess for me to clean up when they are done. They simply empty out her bum and put the “food” away in the containers. If the food was ever forgotten it would not be a big deal as it is play-doh; it would simply dry up. It’s no messier than any other play-doh set.
She sits up just fine for play and doesn’t fall over or need to be propped up. We also have no problems understanding what she is saying. It is quite clear in both French and English. She does make a mechanical sound when she talks and eats, and it is fairly loud. She is also very childlike in that she doesn’t stop talking until she “goes to sleep”. Once “asleep” you can wake her up by pressing on the bracelet on her wrist to continue playing.
I think the best part about her though is that my girls play with her as much as their favourite “baby”.
They are constantly rolling out and shaping her snacks and feeding them to her. They love Snackin’ Sara!
She does use 3 double “A” batteries which are included (yay!) and seem to last awhile, we’ve had her for about a month now and haven’t had to change them yet. She also comes as a brunette baby and a black baby.

I immediately think that she wants a little baby brother or sister. We were at the store and she says “look, mommy, the pooping baby, can I have that?” There it was, a Baby Alive that actually poops. While looking at these dolls, I noticed that there were so many different types. Talking with some of my friends with kids, I learned that a Baby Alive is a pretty popular doll among girls. I have to admit these dolls are pretty amazing. Some of them can crawl, talk, pee, poop, be styled. With so many types, it can be difficult finding the right one. History of Baby Alive Dolls
Baby Alive Dolls first came onto the market in 1973. They were produced by the Kenner company. The dolls came with little packets of food that needed to be mixed with water. Once the food was mixed with water you were able to feed that doll with the included spoon.
Once you spoon fed the doll you have to use a lever on the back of the doll to make the mouth go up and down and eat the food. After the doll ate the food, the food would go through the doll and come out into the diaper.
In 1992 the first talking Baby Alive Doll came out. The doll automatically ate the food, there was no more lever on its back. The doll didn’t sell very well as it made a lot of gear noises and the doll had an adult female sounding voice.
In 1995 a new version of the Baby Alive doll was released. This doll did not talk and came with a potty , snacks and juice boxes.
After Hasbro took over the Kenner company the Baby Alive Doll was re-released in 2006. A variety of Baby Alive Dolls came out. They produced ones that talked and had a baby voice, they have ones the poop, eat, crawl and even some just to snuggle with.

Your child will have fun pretending to blow dry her hair, then actually being able to brush it, style it with braids or ponytails. Christina comes with a colorful hair extension that your child can put in the dolls hair. What’s super fun about this doll is being able to style and restyle her hair over and over again. You can even purchase hair chalk or extra hair extensions (available at dollar stores or Wal-Mart) that your child can use on her doll or her own hair. Some moms I spoke to said they let their daughter’s style the dolls hair while they were getting their own hair brushed and styled and it helped limit the whining and crying. Baby Alive Snugglin Sarina is a good Baby Alive to get for a young girl as their first doll. She doesn’t have any fancy features like some other Baby Alive dolls, however, she is super cute and her thumb fits in her mouth. Sarina comes with a hat that is attached to her head and is wearing a onesie outfit. Sarina is great for holding, snuggling and playing mommy. It is recommended for girls 18 mts and up, but I think you can give her at 12 mts. This doll comes with the doll only.

Baby Alive Luv N Snuggle is a great first-time doll.
She is a soft, sweet, cuddly little baby doll. This was actually the first baby doll I bought my daughter. Like Baby Alive Snugglin Sarina, there aren’t any fancy features. Which is good in my opinion, because if it did, then you would probably be the one changing the diaper. This doll can put her thumb or toe in her mouth, just like a real baby. She is a cute doll. My daughter loves this doll so much that we ended up getting all three versions (blonde, brown and African-American). This doll comes with a blanket and a bottle. This is a great doll for children 12mts-4

Simply remove the plastic diaper, wipe her and don’t forget to put on the pretend baby diaper cream that comes with the doll, then put the diaper back on and click in place. No, You can only use the special food that comes with the baby. Also, make sure your child knows that the special food is food baby only and not them. The food is non-toxic however, you do not want your child to eat the food. Also, it is important not to fill the Baby Alive doll’s sippy cups or bottles with anything besides water. Filling the cups or bottles with anything else could cause mold or bacteria to grow inside the doll if not cleaned out properly. Water is the only liquid that should be used.
Is it possible to use regular Play-Doh as food?I have not personally tried it, but after some research, I found that people have tried using Play-Doh and it worked well with the food shapers.
It also went through the doll pretty well and did not get stuck. Make sure when making the food with the included food shapers, that your child only uses a little at a time. Placing big chucks inside the doll’s mouth could cause it to get stuck and not work properly.
This depends on the type of Baby Alive you purchase. For younger girls 1 – 2 I would choose Baby Alive Luv N Snuggle or Baby Alive Snugglin Sarina, they are great first time dolls. For girls 3-9 I would choose one of the other Baby Alive dolls that have more features such as eating or peeing.
Are Baby Alive dolls made well?yes, Baby Alive dolls are pretty amazing. They are a great quality doll and worth the price. If you take care of them, they will last a very long time.
Can Baby Alive dolls be cleaned easily?Most of the Baby Alive dolls can be cleaned easily. They are made from plastic that can be wipes down with soap and water.
The Snugglin’ Sarina Doll and the Luv N Suggle Baby Alive Doll has soft bodies that make it a little harder to clean.
