ARK Survival Evolved Walkthrough

ARK Survival Evolved Basic Breeding Guide

This guide will cover the basics of breeding, the pros and cons of different birth types, and any special mechanics for certain creatures.

Starting

So breeding. This is a good way to get loot. This can give you better stats for your dinosaurs. And it can make it much easier to reproduce rare creatures. But how to do that? nine0005

Perform the following steps for breeding pregnant women:

1. Obtain a male and female of the same breeding species.

2. Make sure the creatures are close enough to mate.

3. Open the radial wheel on one of the creatures and go to Behavior.

4. Select Enable Pairing from the Behavior Radial Menu. This will allow the creature to mate with another member of the same species that is also allowed to mate. If you have enabled it correctly, hovering over the creature should display the suggestion "Ready to Mate". This will be right below the creature's stats. nine0005

5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the other member of the pair.

6. If the correct steps have been taken, an icon with a bunch of flying hearts will appear above their name tags. This indicates that they are mating.

7. After the mating is completed, the female will have a “Gestating” counter, which, for example, will display petrification and taming progress for wild creatures. It will have a timer.

8. Once the gestation timer expires, the calf will appear unclaimed behind the female. Demand it as soon as possible - your tames think it's an enemy and it quickly dies of starvation. nine0005

9. Raise a child to adulthood - feed, cuddle, do not accidentally kill. Or kill it intentionally because you need drops of it. Which option is better depends on the type.

Incubation breeding steps are slightly different:

1. Get a male and female of the same breeding species. Again.

2. Make sure the creatures are close enough to mate. Obviously.

3. Open the radial wheel on one of the creatures and go to Behavior. Can you tell that they are basically the same? nine0005

4. Select Enable Pairing from the Behavior Radial Menu.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the other member of the couple.

6. Pairing will start, wait until it finishes. After that, he starts to change a lot.

7. After mating is completed, unlike breeding during pregnancy, the egg immediately appears in the back of the female (or both dinosaurs, see next section). The egg will have two stats: Egg Health and Egg Incubation. Health is a percentage, Incubation is a timer and a percentage. nine0005

8. Raise the egg, keeping it at the ideal temperature and protecting it from the weather.

9. Once the incubation timer reaches 0% of its maximum value, the egg will hatch if it is on the ground. If it is in the Genesis Egg Incubator, it must be hatched by hand - a blessing and a curse as it helps to remember to pick it up, but the egg itself can be forgotten.

10. Raise or kill a child in much the same way as reproduction during pregnancy. nine0005

Now that you know how to do basic breeding, I'll explain which creatures have more complex mechanics.

Complex mechanics for complex (and sometimes not complex) species

Some creatures have traits that make breeding their own kind easier, harder, more interesting or, in some cases, dumber. Specify...

- Mavings have no gender. When breeding, BOTH parents lay eggs. If you want, you can cross these two children with two more Mavings... then cross them... and it will never end. In short, as long as someone can keep at least two Mavings alive, you have an almost unlimited number of Mavings. nine0005

- A baby wyvern eats only a special food called Wyvern Milk. This milk is obtained by rendering a wild female wyvern of any non-crystal species unconscious with tranquilizers. Domesticated female wyverns don't have milk, but wyvern babies need milk, no matter where their eggs are sourced or from the wild. So your days of visiting the Wyvern Trench are not over, even if you get a male and female of the same wyvern species. nine0005

-However, young crystal wyverns eat meat daily, along with crystals, which make up the majority of their species' diet. They are able to consume the same food as adults of their species. Despite having primary crystals in the inventory of unconscious adult wild crystal wyverns, these items are only used as more powerful taming food for wild adult crystal wyverns. They are NOT required to feed babies, but they MAY still be used, as pet crystal wyverns can also swallow them. nine0005

Magmasaurs only eat sulfur. With no exceptions. However, adults can also eat Stone.

- Desmodus children have almost the same variety in nutrition as their parents. In other words, they only feed on fans of the single player game - Blood Packs. Luckily, tamed adult Desmodus specimens extract blood packs from those affected by their melee attacks, making it easier to feed their children than the taming process.

-Deinonychus children eat A LOT. I mean A LOT. They cut through food supplies like dodorex cut through bases. Prepare accordingly. nine0005

- Tek Creatures like Tek Predators, Void Serpents, etc. really shouldn't be breeding. And yet they are. Whose idea was it to install functioning reproductive systems on robots...?

Good species to grow

Some species have prey that makes them useful to breed and slaughter. This could include resources, food taming, or quite frankly, just about anything.

-Tek creatures drop electrical components, scrap metal, oil, and elemental dust. All four are valuable. Voidwyrms also drop gasoline and mutagen, which is very nice. nine0005

- Ovis drops Raw Mutton, which is a powerful taming food despite spoiling quickly. It is also very nutritious when cooked. This, along with their pelt and the "Slaughter" option on their "Options" radial wheel, makes them nearly perfect farm animals.

- Kariku drops an organic polymer that will inevitably be needed.

Note that killing creatures is quite... difficult when Friendly Fire is off. The only exception is Ovis, due to the previously announced built-in Slaughter button. nine0005

Pros and Cons of Reproducing Pregnantly

Pros

— Don't rely on temperature to sustain your baby.

- Unable to be stolen by Ichthyornis and Pegomastax while in inventory...because they CANNOT be kept in inventory.

- Baby exists immediately, allowing you to intentionally deliver a baby near outdoor feeders or Meowing without having to give him his own food or take him to the trough / Meowing. nine0005

- Usually have fewer restrictions on breeding and feeding of young than laying hens.

Cons

- A baby that exists right away can cause occasional starvation.

- Cannot be used with Genesis egg incubators, i.e. no choice of when the baby is born.

- It is more difficult to choose the place of birth, since the mother will need to fit into the indicated place.

- Usually classified as a less vigorous species than laying hens. nine0005

Hatchery pros and cons

Pros

- Can be used with the Genesis Egg Incubator, allowing more time for baby prep with the manual incubator.

- Usually referred to as stronger species than species using pregnancy.

- It's easier to choose where the egg will hatch, since even the largest eggs are very small and can be carried around in the inventory.

- Eggs can be eaten for food in a pinch. nine0005

Cons

- Require the egg to be at the desired temperature, making it difficult for the child to survive into childhood due to the fact that the egg can die.

-Eggs can be accidentally eaten. Be careful.

- The small size of the eggs means they can be lost or forgotten.

- Can be stolen by wild Ichthyornis or Pegomastax when carried in inventory.

Methods for Measuring Egg Temperature

There is a very important mechanic with eggs - if they are too hot or cold, their egg health will decrease until they "die" (decompose). However, there are ways to ensure that your egg survives to become a baby without a high-end egg incubator that makes raising eggs easier with temperature control. nine0005

- Dimetrodon can influence temperature to aid in egg production. However, they are a rare find and usually appear very close to dangerous creatures such as Titanoboa, Sarcosuchus, and Kaprosuchus.

- Keep the egg indoors. Open air does not insulate very well.

- Use fires. They raise the temperature around them and the eggs will almost always be too cold before they get too hot.

- Build a special structure for growing eggs if you can save resources. Design it to fit a large number of campfires, helper dinosaurs, and feeders if no Maywings have been purchased, and make sure the material is as good as stone. If the structure protecting the egg is destroyed, chances are that thermal damage will cause the egg to break with it. nine0005

Conclusion

While many players probably already know all of this and possibly more, I'm sure there is someone out there who needs the information. And that someone really needs it. Breeding is one of the best ways to acquire powerful dinosaurs or farm resources. Because steam guides exist for the many AND for the few, and so it doesn't matter how many people already know the information as long as at least one person doesn't. Whether you just came here because you're bored, or because you really needed the information, thanks for reading this guide, even if you haven't read it. nine0005

If you are familiar with my previous manual for another game, you may notice significant differences. This guide is formatted like a walkthrough or set of lists rather than the natural format of my first guide. There are several reasons for this: firstly, ARK breeding is easier to depict in this format, secondly, it focuses on the very basics of the concept, rather than a large set of complex information, and thirdly, the general mood that I was in while. writing it made lists and steps easier than big paragraphs like in another guide (and presumably at the end of this one). nine0005

Again, whether you've come across my other guide or not, thanks for getting this far or just missing out. It does not matter. While there are many subtleties of breeding that I haven't discussed, such as trait inheritance and mutation, this may make it easier to understand for beginners.

Attachment ARK Survival Evolved Training, play with cubs | ARK: Survival Evolved

Starting with version 242 - ARK: Survival Evolved includes a new dinosaur farming system - affection ARK Survival Evolved ! Training and special games with Dino cubs, which are a manifestation of caring for them. As a result, Dino gains affection for the owner and increased stats when controlling the owner. This is not displayed in the stats themselves, what percentage of affection will be after the cub grows up - this percentage will increase the stats when the owner controls the animal. Here's a little tutorial on this new game mechanic that will increase the power and stats of your dinosaurs! nine0005

ARK Survival Evolved Affection

Dino Breeding: Phase 2

Now, when a baby dinosaur is born, a new option appears: “Pay attention to a pet after: H: M: S. This option improves your dinosaur's statistics. And it makes it possible to get increased stats with the full maturation of the Dino.

During your growth and maturation, in addition to the usual food, you will carry out certain actions related to the care and development of the cub - these are unique actions that must be carried out until full maturity. nine0005

Your cub needs care and attention

At all stages of Dino maturation, the text “ Pay attention to your pet through : H: M: S” is displayed above the Cub. After the timer expires, the Hatchling wants one of three types of care:

  • Hugs. You must press the "E" button to interact with the Cub.
  • Kibble (kibble food) for dinosaurs Put it in the last slot in the action bar 0, as with passive taming, and press "E". nine0210
  • Walk. You must whistle to the Hatchling to let him follow you and take a few steps with him.

After one of these three courtesies is rendered, you will see an inscription above the cub's head indicating the percentage of affection received .

Imprinting ARK Survival Evolved Learning, playing with cubs

This is what it looks like when playing in English

Imprinting: what is it?

ARK Survival Evolved affection - imprinted as a percentage. This is the result of the attention you have given your pet during its growth. It differs depending on each specific Dino. The lowest will require only a few signs of attention and care to reach 100% care. However, the most ferocious and hard to tame predators on the island will require much more attention due to the longer growth time.

Each sign of attention and care for your Dino cubs will be recorded on what percentage is made, by whom and other statistical data. nine0005

OPTIMIZATION Affection!

Dinosaur breeding is hard work.

In order to reach 100% - you must be attentive to the timing above the cubs' heads!

With official settings, a sign of attention or otherwise care is required every 3-4 hours.

You have a little less than two hours to meet his needs. If you miss or fail to provide care when your Hatchling wants it, he will lose the percentage of imprinting he gained from the previous attention. nine0005

Affection ARK Survival Evolved

Frequently Asked Questions about Affinity in ARK
  • Can I transfer stats increased by imprinting? Subsequent generations do not have imprinting bonuses received by parents.
  • Can we change the player who takes care of the cub?
The imprinting bonus is only achieved for the player caring for the cub. You cannot switch cub owners to raise imprinting. nine0210
  • Do all players get increased stats when imprinting?
If your Pterodactyl takes extra damage, only you can see and enjoy it. Any other player in your tribe will not see or feel it.
  • If you skip a care, can it drop to 0% or only lose the previous care? Each skip reduces imprinting by the previous percentage and down to 0% if you miss again.
  • Is it possible to take care of and increase the percentage of imprinting after the cub grows up in the ARC?
After the baby has grown up, the imprinting scale is frozen. Even if it's not 100%.
  • Is there a way to improve and optimize imprinting?
    This is completely random.
