AMSTERDAM, N.Y., April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Beech-Nut Nutrition and Goya Foods, Inc. have forged an unprecedented partnership to launch a new line of authentic Hispanic flavored baby foods made with Hispanic moms in mind.  The joint announcement was made today by Beech-Nut President Jeff Boutelle and Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods.

"Our research shows that Hispanic moms have been waiting for just such an offering, which combines the authentic, traditional Latin flavors Goya is famous for with Beech-Nut's nutritious, natural ingredients free of preservatives," said Mr. Boutelle. "Our products are as close as possible to home-made, and that's very important to Hispanic families.

"The Beech-Nut/Goya line of baby food offers mom the best of both worlds," Mr. Unanue said. "Hispanic moms, influenced by their abuelitas, oftentimes believe that healthy, traditional baby food can only be made at home using fresh ingredients. Their challenge is that they simply don't have the time to cook from scratch the way their grandmothers did, and that's where Beech-Nut/Goya comes in:  Our new line of baby food is the perfect union that bridges Hispanic mothers' desire for healthy, traditional baby food with their need for convenience and nutrition in today's hectic world."

Mr. Unanue added that Goya's partnership with Beech-Nut forms part of the company's continued commitment to nutrition and support for the My Plate/ Mi Plato nutritional initiative launched by the White House and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, last year.

Why the emphasis on Latin-flavored baby food? Mr. Boutelle explained that "one fourth of all births in America today are to Hispanics, so that any company hoping to grow their business must take their needs and tastes into account. " He added that because Hispanic families are also larger than non-Hispanic families, their purchase of baby food is 15 per cent higher than for other demographics.

That said, a study recently commissioned by Beech-Nut revealed that two thirds of Hispanic moms are not satisfied with the choices they presently find in baby food, and wish there were more appropriate flavors from which to choose. The new Beech-Nut/Goya brand offers them 22 specially developed Latin flavors and combinations that support a baby's oral development through the feeding cycle, 19 of which are eligible for WIC.

The full line includes everything from wheat, corn, oatmeal/bananas and rice/mango cereals, to Stage 1® beef and chicken with broth, and Stage 2® jarred baby food in the following flavors:  Guava, Mango, Apple Mango, Banana Strawberry, Peach Mango, Squash, Banana Pear, Apple Guava, Banana Peach, Carrots & Peas, Carrots Corn, Pear Guava, and a Vegetable Medley with Sweet Potato, Carrots & Squash. In the Stage 2 ½® category with increased texture, the offerings are banana/apple/plum, pear/apricot and rice pudding with raisins.

The new Beech-Nut/Goya line is expected to be available in stores throughout the country by the end of June.

*NEW* Beech-Nut Goya Baby Foods #Review! #BeechnutGoya | Cleverly Me - South Florida Lifestyle Blog

All moms want the best for their kids and that is the reason why we put so much tough on what we give our kids. Goya products are a staple at my home, we have been using goya product for many, many years, one of my favorite products is Adobo Goya which I use to season all my meats. If you are not familiar with Goya products, Goya Foods is the largest, Hispanic-owned food company in the United States.  And why am I telling you this? Beech-nut and Goya have partner to create a new line of baby foods with unique Hispanic flavors. Last week I received a Beech-nut Goya baby food sampler to review, I received stage 2 Peach Mango, Apple Guava, Carrot Corn, and Mango jars and Stage 1 corn cereal.

Beech-nut Goya baby food is made with natural ingredients, and contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. My baby particularly LOVED the apple guava, is it sweet and contains the right amount of guava to apple ratio. The other flavors were also a hit for baby, I mixed the cereal with fruit and she had it for breakfast, she has enjoyed every morning. I really liked the selection Beech-Nut and Goya have produced, my pediatrician has advised me in the past that when baby has an upset stomach to find baby foods such as Papaya and Guava but sometimes this is easier said than done. Thankfully with this partnership Beech-Nut Goya is giving moms another choice in what we feed our kids. Find more information about Beech-Nut Goya foods Here

Children's vegetable puree: edible or inedible? nine0001

/ All materials

GOST not Decree

The tasting of vegetable puree was conducted by specialists who have devoted many years to the development of baby food. Their opinion can be trusted. But we want to warn you: it is impossible to guarantee that the child will like the same puree as the experts (rather, you should rely on your own taste). Much more important is compliance with safety requirements. And most of the samples we tested meet the standards. Most, but not all.

Deal with quality

Andrey Mosov, head of the expert department of NP Roskontrol, doctor:

“Such characteristics as sweetness, bitterness or “unexpressed taste” are subjective. Parents most often pay attention to the water content of the product. The presence of water in the composition of vegetable puree is not bad for the first feeding. You just need to understand that water is a cheaper raw material than a pumpkin.”

Irina Konokhova, leading expert of NP Roskontrol, doctor:

“Indeed, in most of the tested vegetable purees, the mass fraction of chlorides (i.e. salt) is 0.2%, and in the Babushkino Lukoshko, Heinz and Semper purees it is 0.3%. Perhaps this is due to the higher natural content of sodium chloride in the feedstock, although it cannot be ruled out that salt was added. However, this intake of salt with complementary foods is acceptable, given the physiological need for sodium in children. The permissible mass fraction of chlorides in children's vegetable puree is 0.6%, and this figure is not exceeded in the tested samples. nine0142

How about sterility?

Let's start with the main thing: all samples meet the requirements of industrial sterility. Pesticides were not found in any of the samples, and all samples meet the standards in terms of nitrate content.

In addition, the puree was checked for 5-hydroxymethyl furfural content . It was not found in any of the samples.

No preservatives or sweeteners of any kind are allowed in baby food. We checked the puree for the presence of sorbate, benzoate, sulfur dioxide (these are preservatives) and determined the mass concentration of sweeteners. Parents can be calm: no preservatives or sweeteners were found in the samples. nine0005

One in the jar, another on the label

Andrey Mosov, head of the expert department of NP Roskontrol, doctor:

in pumpkin puree should be 3.6% (in boiled pumpkin - 4.6%).

Summing up and drawing conclusions

Roskontrol experts noted that the manufacturer of puree Semper misleads the consumer about the presence of sugar in the composition. A mark "Bebivita" does not correspond to the actual product name - it is indicated in small print on the back of the label ("Complementary food product - mashed pumpkin and potatoes").
