Contigo Autoseal West Loop Stainless Steel Travel Mug Review
This travel mug has a push button that’s easy to use one-handed and a leak- and spill-proof lid so parents don’t need to worry about hot coffee or tea getting everywhere if it happens to get knocked over or tossed into a diaper bag or stroller basket. Insulated stainless steel keeps drinks hot for hours, which new parents will appreciate when the baby's schedule doesn’t allow them to finish a cup in one sitting.
However, during our tests, we found this mug was a bit inconvenient to wash as the bottle isn't dishwasher-safe, so it's a better choice for those parents who are used to washing some dishes by hand.

What to Look for in Food Gifts for New Parents
Recipient
Consider the parent or parents you're shopping for. Are they more likely to appreciate an edible gift or a food-related gadget that would make food prep easier? If you're shopping for someone who doesn't fancy themselves a home cook, they'll likely appreciate something to eat more than something to cook with. Likewise, if you know the new parent loves to cook, something that makes their lives easier in the kitchen may be the way to go.
If you're considering a non-edible gift, like an Instant Pot, coffee maker, or reusable water bottle, consider if the recipient already owns or registered for something similar. If you're not sure and don't know them well enough to ask, be sure to include a gift receipt in case they wish to return the gift or err on the side of caution and send a gift card or edible gift basket instead.
Before sending or preparing an edible food gift, think about the recipient's food preferences. Do they follow a certain eating style (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, or paleo), have any food restrictions or allergies (i. e. dairy- or gluten-free), and/or developed any particular food aversions or cravings? You don't want to send food that won't be enjoyed.
Perishable vs. Nonperishable
You can find gift baskets and food gifts that include either or both perishable and nonperishable items. Gifting nonperishable food, like shelf-stable snacks, tea, and coffee, don't require new parents to make space in the refrigerator or freezer and will last longer than perishable items, so the parents can enjoy the items at their leisure.
If you're sending a gift that includes perishables, such as fruit or frozen items, you may want to make sure someone will be home to receive the delivery and place it into cold storage in a timely fashion. Most perishable deliveries are packaged with dry ice in insulated materials that will keep the items chilled and ensure safety for several hours beyond delivery. You can double check how perishable items are packaged directly with the retailer under shipping information, FAQs, or customer service.
Return Policy
The return policy can be found on retailers' websites or by contacting their customer service. If you are sending a gift that will be delivered straight to the recipient's doorstep, look for the option to mark the purchase as a gift at checkout. Doing so usually generates a gift receipt that enables the recipient to return the item if they wish and a note from the gift giver so the new parent(s) know who to thank. If you prefer a more personal touch, consider shipping gift items to yourself so you can wrap them, include a handwritten note, and deliver in person.
FAQs
What if I don't know what the new parents like or want to eat?
If you're unsure, don't be afraid to ask. Lizzie Post, etiquette author and co-president of The Emily Post Institute, recommends reaching out to the new parents, letting them know you'd like to give a gift of food, and asking for preferences, restrictions, and what would be most helpful. Some new parents may not want to receive food, while others may happily request something they're particularly wishing for or in need of.
Are food gift cards a good gift for new parents?
If you want to send food, but you're not sure what new parents prefer food-wise, gift certificates are a popular and useful choice. We included several gift card options on this list for grocery and meal delivery, as well as specialty food subscription services. A gift certificate for takeout meal delivery services and/or local restaurants may also be helpful for new parents.
How do I know my food gift has been delivered?
According to Lizzie Post, who has discussed virtual gifting and its potential conundrums on her Awesome Etiquette Podcast, it's A-OK to send a text or email to the new parents with a link to the gift and when they should be expecting it. Doing so gives the recipient a head's up of what to expect and when so they can plan to be present to receive the gift, sign for it if needed, and store any perishable items properly.

What to Look for in New Baby Gift Baskets
Variety
Keep in mind people's food preferences can change all the time for a variety of reasons. It's common for parents to experience food aversions and cravings before and after the arrival of a new baby. A gift that includes a variety of textures and flavors (think: sweet, savory, salty, and even spicy) offers something for everyone and increases the odds of the recipient(s) finding something they enjoy eating.
Perishability
Some of the gift baskets on this list include perishable items, such as fruit, doughnuts, and bagels with cream cheese. Sending perishable gifts is a great option if you know the recipient enjoys and appreciates that food. However, if you're sending a gift to someone whose food preferences you're not as familiar with, it may be wise to send a nonperishable gift basket. That way, food gifts will be less likely to go to waste.
Food Restrictions and Potential Allergens
Whenever you're sending a gift that includes food, you need to consider any dietary restrictions the recipient may have. Are the new parents following a vegetarian diet? Are they allergic to nuts? If you're unsure, you can certainly reach out and ask and/or choose a gift that is free from common food allergens, which include dairy, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and/or gluten, and shellfish.
Again, if you're unsure if someone's eating style has changed or if they have any dietary restrictions, you may want to skip sending any perishable items. If the parents can't consume the perishables, they may go to waste.
Reviews
Since you're sending a gift, you want it to impress, and that means it needs to be packaged safely and deliver on aesthetic appeal. Plus, you want the food to taste good. Checking customer reviews before ordering can give you some real-world experience regarding the presentation, quantity, and quality of items in a gift basket. If the majority of ratings and reviews are positive, it can provide some additional assurance that you're sending a quality gift that will delight the recipient(s).
FAQs
When should you send parents a new baby gift?
According to Lizzie Post, etiquette expert at The Emily Post Institute and co-host of the Awesome Etiquette podcast, you can send parents a new baby gift any time you wish. How you send the gift, though, will depend on where you're geographically located. If you live some distance from the recipients, you'll want to take advantage of deliverable gift baskets, like those on this list. Just double check shipping policies before ordering to make sure the gift can be delivered to your chosen destination.
If you live nearby and would like to deliver a gift to the family in person, you may opt to ship the gift to yourself. Keep in mind it's best to wait to be invited to meet the new baby or ask the new parents for the best time to visit.
If I already gave a baby shower gift, do I need to send another gift when the baby is born?
No, it's not necessary to give another gift once the new baby arrives if you've already given a shower gift. It's up to you whether you wish to send a congratulatory gift basket once the baby arrives.
Some parents welcome food gifts in the early newborn days, but not all parents want or prefer food gifts. If you're in the position to do so, check in with the parents before selecting on a gift to see if they have any requests. Post points out that new parents tend to be inundated with hand-me-downs and gifts, so asking what the family may need in those early days is often much appreciated.
How do I know my gift basket has been delivered?
Most gift baskets let you select a delivery date or provide an estimated delivery date, whether you select standard or expedited shipping. Tracking information is typically provided, so you can keep tabs on shipping and delivery status.
If you're sending a gift basket that includes perishable items, you might consider letting the parents know to expect a delivery. Doing so lets the recipient know to expect a delivery with items that need to be placed into cold storage.
While sending a thank you is always in style, it can slip a parent's mind to do so in a timely fashion in those early new baby days. If you've sent a gift and haven't heard from the parents, Post notes it's perfectly acceptable to reach out and ask if they've received it. Although rare, deliveries can be delayed or go missing, so it's best to check.
How We Researched
To compile this list, our team of editors and contributors spent hours researching the best products on the market in this category, evaluating their key features—like ease of use, material, or price—in addition to reviews from customers and other trusted sources. We then used this research to assign a star rating from one to five (five being the best; one being the worst) to certain products on the list.

The 25 Best Food Gifts for New Parents of 2023
a list of inexpensive and original gifts for parents
It is customary to share the joy of the birth of a baby with loved ones. If you are lucky enough to be in a narrow circle of those whom your parents entrusted to join the holiday, then you immediately begin to think how to repay such an honor. In other words, what to give for the birth of a child. Komsomolskaya Pravda comes to the aid of everyone who is tormented by a difficult question. The material collected ideas for unusual gifts.
Top 7 baby gift ideas
1. Practical present
Photo: pixabay.comWhen a child is born, it brings not only a lot of joy, but also an increase in expenses. Baby food, clothes, rattle toys and other little things. Therefore, on the birth of a child, many try to present a useful gift that will go into business
What we recommend to give
Diapers. This is what will definitely come in handy in large volumes. We assure you that your parents will appreciate it. Still, the costs of this important "accessory" in the early years are high. For those who do not want to give a naked package of diapers, we offer to arrange it in the form of a cake. You can buy ready-made ones, or you can create your own. You can also add a couple more tiers of baby food cans to it.
2. Taking care of your health
pixabay.comIt is especially stressful for new parents to understand what is wrong with a child when he cries. Tummy ache, simple whim or fever? Heat is generally difficult to define. First, babies have higher temperatures. Secondly, how to keep a thermometer to an unconscious baby?
What we recommend as a gift
Non-contact thermometer. This is a device that measures the temperature in a couple of seconds in any part of the body. Some models lean against the forehead. Others can simply be pointed and, by means of safe infrared radiation, they read the heat at a distance of several centimeters. There are also special models aimed at children. They can measure the temperature of mixtures and bathing water.
3. For Safe Eating
Photo: Nick White, globallookpress.comWhen we care for babies, there are a lot of hygienic rules to follow. Handle nipples, bottles, iron diapers and sliders. After all, crumbs are especially vulnerable to bacteria and viruses.
What we recommend as a gift
Baby sterilizer. This is a device that disinfects bottles and pacifiers. There are electric models in which you put the dishes, close the lid and the device generates steam. The procedure takes about 20 minutes. When finished, a signal will sound. There are just boxes that can be put in a microwave oven - they are cheaper.
4. For the peace of mind of parents
Photo: Pixabay, pexels.comThe first years a baby needs an eye and an eye. Babies may simply cry because they have lost contact with the parent. Older children begin to explore the world, run, try to climb and climb into dangerous places. But keeping a child in sight is not always possible. Sometimes you have to do household chores.
What we recommend as a present
Everyone knows about a baby monitor — a walkie-talkie that is always on and, in which case, broadcasts the baby's cry. But today, with the development of technology, baby monitor - a set of a camera that is installed in the room and a monitor to receive the signal. Its plus is that you can follow the grown-up children, who are just actively studying everything around.
5. Packing for a walk
Photo: Michael Weber, globallookpress.comDuring the first years of walking with a child, parents are forced to take a whole arsenal of things that may be needed at any time - a pair of nipples, a bottle of water, a bottle of formula, scarves, diapers, in general, a complete set.
What we recommend as a gift
Bag for mom. It is roomy and made of durable fabric. In addition, many are divided into compartments for "baby accessories", for example, compartments for bottles, medicines, etc. There are a lot of choices in stores now. Some look quite stylish, and not just like a duffel bag. Fashionistas will appreciate it.
6. To breathe easily
Photo: pixabay. comIn recent years, the number of children with allergies has been growing. Many have breathing problems due to mucus accumulating in the nasopharynx. All this interferes with the proper development of the child. Many begin to breathe through their mouths, and this is wrong.
What we recommend as a present
As an idea for a present for the birth of a child, you can consider nasal aspirator. This is a portable device that pumps out purulent discharge from the nasal cavity. There are electronic and mechanical devices. The snot enters a special compartment that can be washed and disinfected.
7. For those who value moments
Photo: pixabay.comPeople used to be more sentimental. They cut off a lock of the child's hair and stored it. There were no smartphones with good cameras, so we went to a photo salon or ordered a professional with a camera. Today this is all a thing of the past. But you can still give emotions.
What we recommend as a gift
Plaster for modeling. Parents can mix the solution and leave an imprint of the baby's hand or foot on it. Some then hang the cast in a frame or paint it and make it a decorative element. Or you can just save it for a long memory and after many years get it out of the box and be touched.

How to choose a gift for the birth of a child
All gifts can be conditionally divided into two types. The first are practical, which will be useful to parents in caring for the baby. The second is emotional. For example, albums, photo frames, the same gypsum for a palm cast.
Not all parents can appreciate sentimental gifts. Some people just don't like or try to hide their emotions. But still, the idea of such a gift for the birth of a child should not be abandoned. Maybe the parents just didn’t think about it, they already have enough worries. And they will have a conditional photo album "The first year" of life, you see, they will fill it.
Feel free to ask what to give. The family will have a lot of expenses: a crib, a stroller, diapers, mixtures, toys, an arena. There is not enough money for everything. Ask directly what young parents lack. Or you can ask their relatives if you are afraid that they will dissuade from a gift for the birth of a child.
Don't give too personal gifts. An example would be a breast pump. Suddenly the family is not going to use breastfeeding at all. And with such a gift, you seem to give advice. It will also be bad manners to present slimming underwear to mom. If it is really necessary, the woman herself will choose.
Giving a set of baby formula is also not a good idea. On the one hand, there are not so many types of them in stores. On the other hand, the child may be allergic to unfamiliar food. Therefore, this is the thing that parents choose together with the pediatrician.
