I remember that in Soviet times, from a business trip to Star City, I brought cosmonauts' food to Kamchatka: borscht and soups in tubes, pea puree and currant juice in "just add water" bags.

Now American children are switching to a similar diet en masse - you don't even need to add water. Plum Organics has pioneered a new and highly lucrative business: bagged meals for preschoolers. The bags have a plastic spout from which the child can suck on mixtures of fruits, vegetables and cereals. Each serving contains approximately 100 calories.

Although sachets cost almost twice as much as conventional baby food in jars, stores are filling shelves with the latest trend. Even children's yogurt is now sold in plastic "tubes" (it is very inconvenient to squeeze such yogurt out of a tube if you eat it "humanly"...).

The popularity of the novelty is explained by the fashionable idea of "raising children on free range" - "free-range parenting" (previously, the term free-range referred only to livestock and chickens raised on free range - Auth.). But modern parents want maximum freedom and the opportunity to feed the child when he is hungry, regardless of the daily routine. “It gives kids control over what they eat,” explains a marketer at one of the “baby sachet” companies. More thoughtful parents fear that this will cause a lot of problems in the future, but ... they still stock up on bags - "because it's convenient."

This is my next report on snacks for kids. This time we tried four types of puree.

All fruit or fruit and vegetable purees, three of them contain mango. I'm a mango fan, ~~so the kid has to eat it~~ I'll start with the one in which it has the most distinct taste.

Nurture Inc. (Happy Baby), Happytot, Fruit & Vegetable Blend, Kale Apple Mango, 4.22 oz (120 g)

This smoothie doesn't get good reviews due to its texture. The fact is that specially prepared chia seeds (3%) are added to the mixture, which are felt as small solid particles. I give fruit puree to the child mixed with calcined cottage cheese, so I break everything together with a blender. After such an operation, no solid particles remain. By the way, the puree does not indicate for what age it is intended. My child is 9months - she ate a bag in two days, there were no unpleasant consequences.
The taste of puree is sweet, pronounced fruity, tropical. Apple and kale do not dominate the taste. It contains a natural flavoring agent, which I did not really like in principle. According to my subjective feelings, this is a passion fruit flavor. In general, the puree is delicious, but I won’t take this again for a child: because of chia and flavoring. This puree is now available at a trial price - I can recommend it for adults as a snack or as an addition to cottage cheese, porridge, chia pudding.

Ella's Kitchen, Super Soft Puree, Organic Pears, Mango & Papaya, 3.5 oz (99 g)

Really smooth tasting puree. The bright taste of pear is softened by the sweetness of papaya and mango. The puree is made from organic ingredients and does not contain anything extra: only fruits. I will buy this puree again and again, I liked it very much.

I was disappointed with this smoothie. It is high quality, organic and all natural, but it turned out to be made from a variety of mangoes that I do not like. I love yellow mangoes, they are sweet and fragrant, oblong and slightly flattened. And this puree is made from a variety that, when ripe, has a green skin with a red barrel, they are more round in shape, have greater pulp fiber, sourness and astringency in taste. Actually, this kind of mango is depicted on the packaging, so the manufacturer did not deceive anything. My daughter did not like this puree.
