Breastfeeding is best. Infant milk is suitable from birth, when babies are not breastfed and should only be used on the advice of a doctor, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care. When bottle feeding do not allow prolonged or frequent contact of milk feeds with your baby's teeth as this increases the risk of tooth decay. Ask your healthcare professional or dentist for advice. Make sure your baby's teeth are cleaned after the last feed at night.

Tips for a smart mom: a sensor for a child and an electric chair!

Did you know that modern diapers have sensors that will tell you when it's time to change your baby's clothes, and milk formula can be prepared in a special machine? Liina Pulges, a mother of four children and businesswoman, will help navigate baby apps and devices and present a starter technology package that will make life easier for parents.

Baby applications

It's amazing how many smart apps for babies have been invented! The first application we decided to try was the "baby" monitor. It works very simply. I left my husband’s smartphone in the room where the child was sleeping, the phone, having heard the baby’s voice, should have called me right away.

It seemed a little strange that the baby slept so long and so peacefully and there were no reports of crying. It turned out that the child woke up a long time ago, cried and calmed down, and at that time the phone tried to clarify with him exactly how he should call - via Skype or not. nine0003

Lullaby application

I downloaded this application when in the middle of the night I almost despaired of calming the children “sleeping” next to me, who did not want to go to bed. Thanks to this program, I turned into a composer, having the opportunity to create my own lullabies.

Let's take the whisper of the wind in the background, add the rustle of rain, a little lullaby purring, the sound of a waterfall - and a long-playing hypnotic composition is ready! Whether this helped the child fall asleep - I don’t know, but I was overwhelmed pretty quickly, after which at some point the children seemed to fall asleep as well. nine0003

Breastfeeding

Baby Nursing / Breastfeeding

I would never have thought that such an application exists, but there are dozens of them, and not just one! The bottom line is that every time you feed, you need to start a timer in the program and note which breast you are feeding.

This app makes it easier to remember which breast to give next time. So all those who turn on the statistics will have a detailed overview of the first year of a child's life, where it is recorded to the minute which breast and how much he suckled, as well as how many weeks of life it took the mother. nine0003

To be honest, I didn't use this app. Since we have two kids at once, I felt like some kind of accountant who, when she feeds, writes down her slightest movements, despite the fact that she doesn’t have a third hand to start and stop the timer.

An easy and safe way to warm baby food.

Bottle warmer

The device may seem absurd, but it makes life easier for the mother. You just put a bottle of drink or puree into the water container provided with the device, and in a few minutes the food is heated to exactly 37 degrees. And no more dripping milk on your hand and wondering if it's too hot. nine0003

I bought this machine for myself, but I immediately discovered that children drink milk at room temperature just as willingly as warmed up to 37 degrees. Therefore, the heater soon took its place somewhere in the corner of the kitchen and was gathering dust there.

Milk machine

It is what it is: you press the button and the right amount of milk of the right consistency and temperature is measured out. Cows are stone age!

And I want such a car! And here's another free business idea: it would be very good if the same machine gave not only milk, but also prepared strong coffee for parents barely standing on their feet from insomnia. I would definitely buy something like this. nine0003

Health

Electric nozzle pump

Our babies, not without the help of brothers and sisters who are always ready to help, managed to catch a runny nose already at the age of two months. I must say that for such babies this is sheer torture, because they do not know how to blow their noses. Yes, there are mechanical nozzle pumps that work in such a way that you need to insert a tip into the child’s nose and suck the snot into a tube with your mouth. nine0003

As soon as I just imagine it, I feel bad, and I'm not even convinced by the fact that there is some kind of filter, so I don't swallow snot. For squeamish people like me, they came up with a battery-powered thing that works like a small vacuum cleaner.

For squeamish people like me, they came up with a battery-powered thing that works like a small vacuum cleaner

Here you just insert a tip into the child’s nose, and the machine sucks out the snot by itself. Very comfortably! I heartily recommend! nine0003

Silent steam engine

If a runny nose still crept in, a silent ultrasonic inhaler will be invaluable help. In it, water vapor is crushed into tiny droplets, and even a sleeping child can be treated with it. A very necessary device in our climate. I advise.

Non-contact thermometer

Only great-grandmothers put mercury thermometers under their arms! Modern thermometers do not even require contact with the body. Yes, they will already tell you at a distance of five centimeters from the forehead whether there is a temperature or not. This is especially helpful when the baby is sleeping. This thermometer is a must buy. nine0003

Lulling chaise longue

It would be great if a mother would take the cradle out onto the lawn and rock the baby there. But even a baby who is only a few months old is already so heavy that no one has the strength to lull him for several hours in his arms.

This is where the rocking chair rushes to the rescue, which puts even the most stubborn fidget to sleep. nine0003

Since we used dozens of batteries in such a sunbed, my husband figured out how to connect the device to a power outlet. So our firstborn literally grew up in the electric chair - but we saved nature, because we did not leave boxes of used batteries behind us.

In addition to the sunbed, there are also self-rocking electric cradles. I know one family in which such cradles saved a mother and father who were on the verge of insanity from insomnia.

Baby monitor with screen

If the house is large, a baby monitor is needed. And then you put the child in the room to sleep, and you won’t hear or see anything outside the door if there is no such monitor. In addition to the fact that it responds to sound, you can also watch and even speak through it, because, in addition to a microphone, modern monitors have a camera and a screen.

In Estonia, in stores for children's goods, such things cost, of course, half as much as they should, but we ordered it for ourselves via the Internet, and delivery was free. The good thing about our monitor is that the camera works even in a dark room, and I'll help you see what's going on at any time (unless, of course, there are two older children who drag off the camera and screen and play detectives with them). nine0003

Diapers with sensor

I was very surprised when I discovered that the same Libero diapers that we used with our older children now have a replacement sensor!

Yes, yes! An unused diaper has a yellow line that turns blue when wet. And you don’t have to undress your baby anymore and use the sensors that are in your nose - just see what color the strip is. Everything and business! nine0003

How dad breastfeeds - Alina Markova - Children - Site materials - Snob

Three kilos of ripe cherries, a newborn daughter on her chest and a happily smiling husband - that was my world the first time after childbirth. “Our daughter doesn’t need anything but your breasts!” the husband said, and this helped a lot morally. And the fresh cherries that he brought every day - physically. In the UK, the government, together with the Institute of Paternity, decided to involve fathers in the process of breastfeeding by adding an information booklet to the starter package for pregnant women and promoting exactly this scheme - nothing but breastfeeding for newborns. nine0003

Instructions for fathers provide information on the mechanisms of breastfeeding and how to support a new mother. A campaign to educate fathers about breastfeeding is not an attempt to educate anyone. This is a completely pragmatic struggle for the health of the nation - the same as the fight against alcoholism, drug addiction and smoking.

Formula-fed babies are twice as likely to suffer from so-called sudden infant death than breast-fed babies. nine0003

Breastfeeding reduces the risk of infections and sepsis, key causes of early childhood death. In addition to reducing immediate threats to life, breastfeeding (for more than six months) affects mental development - such children are less likely to develop autism, 20% more likely to receive higher education and perform better in school.

Mother's milk continues to influence a person's life after school. It's hard to believe, but if you were breastfed as an infant, you're less likely to be overweight as an adult. The whole world is struggling with high cholesterol in adults, and if mothers breastfed them as children, their cholesterol levels would be 10% lower without any pills. Cancers, such as leukemia, are also less likely to occur in breastfed women. nine0003

Breastfeeding also affects a mother's life. Each year of breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer by 4. 3%. If a woman breastfed her children, then without special exercises and diets, she is more likely to be in better physical shape, and her waist will be thinner - simply because lactation is an expenditure of 500 calories per day. Women who have breastfed their children for more than two years are a quarter less likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases, and this is the main cause of death in developed countries. nine0003

The trouble is that the mother herself often cannot defend her right to breastfeed (after all, this takes her away from both her career and family life), she cannot cope with this hard work. For many decades, breastfeeding was neglected, as it was believed that a woman has more important things to do than motherhood. Promotion of feeding according to the regime - for the convenience of the nurse's work schedule - led to insufficient stimulation of milk production. The pacifier satisfies the sucking reflex of the baby and at the same time accustomed to the wrong grip on the breast. The baby sucked incorrectly or refused the breast altogether. Feeding failed. The child was given to nannies and fed artificially. Formula manufacturers claimed that their product was no worse than mother's milk - which is absolutely not true: the mixture is as similar to breast milk as a plastic prosthesis is to a real limb. The mixture will help to survive in the absence of breast milk, nothing more. nine0003

Today, when there are official recommendations from WHO and UNICEF in this regard, in a house where there is a baby, you can see the following scene: a nursing woman, comfortably sitting in a chair with a baby, “does nothing” - watches movies, reads books, chats on the phone, and a tired husband is spinning, fulfilling her wishes - he brings food, a blanket or a cup of fresh tea. And if a man knows how important breastfeeding is for his family, then he is not offended by such “inequality”. He will be able to support a woman when a lactation crisis occurs - the child “hung on her chest” and sucks milk for herself all day and night, because she is growing.
