Ordering Baby Supplies From The Airport

Anything that helps make flying with a baby easier, or passing through security a breeze is a good idea in my book! Many parents have been asking how to pre-order baby milk and other supplies or treats from Boots in airports, and how this service works. Here is the step by step procedure. Below you will also find further information on the UK airports offering this service and examples of what you can order. Boots Airport Click and Collect is back after a temporary stop due to Covid!

WHAT CAN I ORDER FROM BOOTS AT THE AIRPORT?

Table of Contents - Click to jump to a section

You can order almost anything from the Boots website, not just baby milk or food! This includes all your baby essentials and suntan lotion etc for collection after all security checkpoints. It must meet baggage and security requirements though. (See ‘How Much Can I Order” for more information on this.)

This will hopefully save you some time in the security queue as you will have less liquids to be checked and perhaps save a little room in your suitcase too. Win, win!

How much can I order?

  • Be aware that if you will be in transit at some point of your journey, you may be checked for liquids over 100ml again.  With baby food and milk you will be fine but if you ordered a large suntan lotion bottle, you may have to give that up.
  • With baby milk, you can pre-order up to 2 tubs or 56 ready-to-drink cartons of baby milk.
  •  You are allowed ONE standard airport shopping bag on to your flight in addition to your hand luggage. e.g You can have hand luggage + 1 Boots bag or hand luggage + a standard bag from another airport store.

Please note: Orders cannot be made by telephone.

Ordering Instructions

  • Visit Boots here and add any supplies needed into your normal online shopping basket. You can order baby milk, food, nappies, bottles, suntan lotion, makeup –  basically anything they sell. The only exception is anything sharp as these will be confiscated by security and no refund will be given.
  •  When checking out, please select delivery to store.  Delivery is free on orders over £20.
  • The system will ask you to search for a store, please choose your airport. Check carefully that you have selected the correct store as some airports have Landside Stores before security, as well as Airside stores (after security) and several terminals. A listing of the airports which have Boots is below. To avoid queues, choose the airside stores.
  • You will need to pay for your order in full by credit, debit or Paypal. Your order will then be delivered to your store within 5 to 6 working days. Please enter your mobile number online as you will receive a text message when it arrives in store.
  •  Boots will hold orders for 28 days after delivery date in their airport stores. Please leave at least 15 minutes to collect your order in store as they are held in a secure area outside of the store.

Obtaining a certificate of state registration for baby food

In our country, any product intended for children of primary and preschool age undergoes strict control for compliance with safety standards within the framework of state registration. For baby food, this measure is established by the list of products subject to state registration (SGR) in the bodies of Rospotrebnadzor. This document classifies the mentioned product as a specialized food, for which it is also prescribed to issue an SGR. How to do this now and will be discussed.

The state registration certificate is issued by the body authorized by Rospotrebnadzor after a set of tests and examinations. The main purpose of these events is to confirm the compliance or non-compliance of food products for children with safety standards adopted in the Customs Union. These norms are formulated at once by two Technical Regulations of the Customs Union, which are responsible for food products in general and for their labeling. In addition, depending on the type of product, it may be subject to other regulations. For example, for juice products. Of course, the goods must pass through all the parameters specified in the regulations.

Another important issue is what actually counts as baby food and what is adult food, for which SGR, with some exceptions, is not required. Baby food is divided into three groups according to the age of the consumer. The first group - children under 3 years old; the second group - children from 3 to 6 years old and the third group - children over 6 years old. This classification is due to the peculiarities of the development of the organism and, as a result, each stage of development requires its own set of nutrients that the child's body receives from the product.

As for the types of baby food, the nomenclature is quite rich. As a rule, baby food is a product made according to a special technology, to which special requirements are imposed. These include:

  • infant formula;
  • fruit and vegetable purees;
  • preserved juices and nectars;
  • pâtés and sausages for pre-school children;
  • canned meat and fish for children;
  • children's confectionery;
  • cereals and cereal mixtures for feeding children over 3 years of age;
  • children's drinking water.

In addition to the above items, the category for children also includes food products declared by the manufacturer as specialized for children.

The first stage of the procedure will be the collection of documents in order to submit an application to Rospotrebnadzor. The finished package of documents, together with product samples, is accepted by an employee of the department, after which all necessary measures will be taken to check the quality of baby food. These include an audit of the production where the products are manufactured, as well as laboratory testing of product samples.

For the applicant, the difficulties begin after the need has matured for obtaining a certificate of state registration for baby food. The fact is that the list of documents as such is in the regulations, but taking into account the specifics of the product, it can be supplemented. Food products intended for children are exactly the case. Therefore, to clarify the list of documentation required for filing an application, it is worth checking with a specialist of the certification center.

In addition, dry administrative regulations and normative acts do not take into account the diversity of life situations, and it is often necessary to find a non-standard solution. Which only professionals can do. It is to them that the design of the SGR should be entrusted. This will significantly save the time of the procedure. Which is important, given that the certificate of state registration is the primary document received immediately before certification or declaration.
