Our Foods
I noticed the new label on "Classics" jars. What changed?
Our line of classics jar purees (which used to be called Beech-Nut® Classics) has gotten an upgrade! We have improved this line to remove artificial ingredients like ascorbic acid and citric acid. Now, all Beech-Nut® fruit and veggie purees have nothing artificial added. Other than that, the recipe for the jars remains the same, with the same flavor and smooth texture your baby is used to.
The new look for the Classics jars helps communicate the promise of real food with larger graphics so it’s even easier to spot your favorite fruit or veggie combination on shelf.
These product improvements come at no additional cost to our moms & dads. The new products are still WIC™ eligible wherever they were previously.
Is your baby food certified organic?
Our Beech-Nut® Organics line of baby food is certified USDA organic.
Browse our organic products here, including jar purees and cereals.
What does "naturals" mean?
At Beech-Nut®, we make foods for babies using simple, natural ingredients from places that nurture their fruits and vegetables and care about their quality. Beech-Nut Naturals® start with real fruits & veggies that are gently cooked to help preserve their nutrients, vibrant color, and flavor.
To learn more about our Naturals process, click here.
What measures do you take to ensure your foods are high quality?
Did you know we test for 255 pesticides, toxins, and heavy metals?
We have an entire department dedicated to ingredient sourcing. Research goes into finding the phenomenal food that goes into our jars. We build relationships with farms we can trust, and look for opportunities to buy locally whenever we can – like how all of our apples for our Naturals™ range come from about three hours away in upstate New York! We do what it takes to make sure we are using only the best, including turning food away when it isn’t up to our standards.
To read more about our quality standards, click here.
Unrefrigerated fruits and vegetables go bad without added preservatives. How do you have shelf-stable products that are still natural?
The key is in our cooking process, which uses both deaeration and gentle heating. In deaeration we remove air from the puree so the food isn’t exposed to oxygen, which would cause browning and decomposition. The food is then gently cooked, which deactivates enzymes and bacteria that could further break down the food and allows the product to be shelf stable. This is similar to what you’d do when canning at home.
Do Beech-Nut® foods contain GMOs?
We’re working with the Non-GMO Project to verify all our products. We believe that the Non-GMO Project’s seal is a good fit for our products because it is trustworthy, defensible and transparent and (most important) requires ongoing testing. Right now, over 100 of our products are Non-GMO Project verified, and we’re pursuing all the rest! Look for the butterfly on our packaging in stores. You can learn more and check on the status of our approvals on the Non-GMO Project’s website: livingnongmo.org
Which of your foods are gluten-free?
Any of our products that do not contain wheat or oat are gluten-free. All allergen information is clearly listed on each product’s label. See a full list of our products here.
Which of your foods are Kosher?

Which of your foods are Halal?

What’s in the broth in Beech-Nut® Stage 1 meat jars? Is it safe to feed to my pet?
The broth in our Stage 1 meat jars (Beef & Beef Broth jar, Chicken & Chicken Broth jar, and Turkey & Turkey Broth jar) is just meat and water. There is no onion, garlic, or other spices in these jars.
What is glyphosate and how do you test for it in your foods?
Glyphosate is a commonly used pesticide, and traces of this chemical can remain on foods sourced from U.S. farms. We want to reassure parents that all Beech-Nut® foods are healthy, nutritious and safe. Our glyphosate standard is 10 times more rigorous than the EPA’s regulatory standard, and for certified organic products, our standard is set at zero. For example, the oat flour in our infant cereal is tested to help ensure that it meets our high standards. Just like you would, we send it back if it doesn’t meet our standards.
Why does there appear to be a ring of food on the bottom of my jar?
Instead of removing all the good fibers in fruits and veggies, we keep them in. This gives you the nutritional value you’d expect of your homemade foods. Separation or clumping is natural and you may see some of these fibers settle to the bottom of the jar or clump together. Simply stir or shake the jar to mix these fibers in before feeding.
Why are there black specs in the cereal I purchased?
Beech-Nut® cereal is iron fortified to help support your baby’s brain development as a vital nutrient. Iron appears as black specks in the cereal and is completely safe for your baby to consume.
Do Beech-Nut® baby foods contain lead?
Even the highest quality, organic and non-GMO fruits and vegetables contain trace amounts of lead because this contaminant commonly occurs naturally in soil. The FDA states that: “Because lead may be present in environments where food crops are grown and animals used for food are raised, various foods may contain unavoidable but small amounts of lead that do not pose a significant risk to human health.” We have strict standards and test for up to 255 contaminants for every batch of food we make. Read about our Food Quality and Safety standards here.
What should I do if I have a quality concern or question?

Feeding Tips
When should I start my baby on solid foods?
Every baby is different! Talk to your pediatrician to understand when your baby is ready to try solid foods in conjunction with formula or breast milk. A good rule of thumb is to start trying solids around 4-6 months. Your doctor can help you decide when to start and what to try first with a feeding plan. For more information, check out tips from our pediatric nutrition specialist Nicole Silber here on our blog. These are signs your doctor looks for to determine that your baby is ready:
- When your baby can sit with your support.
- When your baby can hold her head up and turn her head away when she’s full.
- When your baby can take food from a spoon and has learned to swallow.
How should I serve Beech-Nut® food?
We recommend serving at room temperature or slightly warmed. If using a microwave, be sure to stir thoroughly, and always test the temperature before serving it to your baby, as uneven heating may occur (note: Do not microwave Beech-Nut® jars that contain meat). A safe alternative to microwaving is placing your jar in a bowl of warm water, then stirring and testing the temperature. Also, it’s best that you don’t feed directly from the jar, to prevent bacteria growth.
What do the different Stages mean?
These ages are only suggested ranges since every baby develops differently. Do not begin to introduce Stage 3® foods until you are sure your baby has the teeth needed to enjoy these foods. To filter all of our products by the age of your baby, try our search tool here!
- Stage 1® from about 4 months – a delicious introduction to single-ingredient solid food.
- Stage 2® from about 6 months – introduces more single-ingredient foods and perfect pairings of two or more favorites.
- Stage 3® from about 8 months – provides new tastes, new textures and new colors that a few new teeth can enjoy.
- Stage 4® from about 12 months – introduces more complex ingredients for supporting healthy growth and development.
What should I know before moving on to Stage 2® foods?
Once you’ve tried Stage 1® single-ingredient foods and learned which ones agree with your baby, you can serve mixtures of those foods. Unless your doctor says otherwise, a good rule of thumb is to start mixed-ingredient foods at about six months. There are a few things to keep in mind:
- If your baby was sensitive to any single food, don’t feed a combination food that contains it.
- It’s okay to keep single-ingredient foods in your baby’s diet.
- Breast milk or formula is the critical foundation of your baby’s diet for the first 12 months, so keep feeding at every meal.
The product looks different than the last time I bought it – why?
Each year’s crop can be slightly different, as you’d expect in your own home garden from season to season. This can result in a product that is slightly thicker or thinner, or a product that may also taste slightly different from each other because of crop variety.
What does an allergic reaction look like?
Always check with your doctor if your baby shows any sign of an allergic reaction. Food allergy reactions vary greatly. Symptoms can include difficulty in breathing, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, coughing, runny nose and watery eyes. A good rule to follow is to introduce just one new food every 3 to 5 days to help identify any possible allergies. With this in mind, our Beech-Nut® Stage 1® foods are “single-ingredient” foods, and all our cereals are soy-free, to provide you a convenient and healthful way to check for food allergies in your little one.
How can I feed my baby safely to help prevent foodborne illness?
Take extra care when handling and preparing any baby food, since infants and young children can be more vulnerable to foodborne illnesses (caused by bacteria or viruses, for example salmonella). The most important rule: always wash your hands before feeding time, since your hands can pick up harmful bacteria from pets, raw food, soil, or diapers. Here are some other tips for safe feeding.
- Inspect the baby food’s packaging before you serve it, ensuring that the safety button on the lid of the jar is down and that pouches aren’t swelling or leaking.
- Always use a clean spoon for serving, and don’t put the spoon in your mouth or anyone else’s mouth.
- Never leave opened baby food out at room temperature for more than two hours.
- Store opened baby food in the refrigerator, but only for a maximum of three days. “When in doubt, throw it out!”
- See the FDA’s safe feeding and handling tips here. This page includes information about how to microwave baby food, how to store unused baby food, and when to call the doctor if you think your baby has a foodborne illness.

Packaging & Storage
How do I store your foods?
All products are designed to be stored at room temperature before opening. Freezing before use is not recommended. After opening, please refer to the label on each individual product for proper handling and storage information.
Why did you choose glass jars instead of plastic?
Beech-Nut® was the first U.S. baby food to use recyclable glass jars, which protect the taste, smell or texture of our foods.
Our glass jars make it easy to see what’s inside: the beautiful colors and natural textures of nothing but real fruits and vegetables. A few more reasons to love our jars:
- They are infinitely recyclable.
- They’re BPA-free (like all of our packaging!)
- There are a million fun ways to reuse them (check out our DIYs)
Are your pouches recyclable?
Not currently, but we are listening to your feedback and are actively working on a recyclable pouch option.
Where can I find the "best by" date? (Expiration date)
- For cereals—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the canister.
- For jars—the best by date can be found on the top or side of the lid.
- For pouches—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the pouch near the barcode.
- For Melties—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the pouch near the barcode.
- Toddler Snack Bars—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the carton and on each individual bar.
Does your packaging contain BPAs?
No BPAs are used in the formulation of any of our packaging materials (pouches, jars, lids, material inside our lids, canisters, etc. )
How do I know if my jar was stored improperly?
The texture and color of our purees will change if the jars are stored improperly. This is because ingredients like bananas are a temperature-sensitive. For example, when bananas are exposed to extreme temperatures, they can become clumpy. They can also turn pink or develop a thick film that may look like the skin you would find on pudding. If your jar is showing any of these characteristics, then the jar was most likely not stored according to our guidelines. While there are no health or food safety risks associated with the affected jars, they are not up to the quality of the food we strive to produce. Please call our Consumer Help Line: 1–800-233–2468 and we will happily replace the damaged jars.
What should I do if the jar lid didn’t pop?
Every jar of Beech-Nut food should pop when you open it. If your jar didn’t pop, don’t use the food. We will happily replace your damaged jar if you call our Consumer Help Line: 1-800-233-2468 and let us know.

Baby food on board, or how not to leave a child hungry on an airplane
Many families indulge in the pleasure of traveling with their children. If you are going to fly on a plane with a small child, you need to properly prepare for the flight, because the baby needs regular and nutritious meals.
The question often arises: is it possible to take baby food on the plane, will it be taken away during the pre-flight inspection, is the menu offered by airlines suitable for a child?
Our article will tell you how to get ready for the journey so that your child is not hungry on the plane.
Contents
- What can I take on the plane?
- How much food should I take?
- Weight of hand luggage
- Children's menu on board
- How to transport canned food and drinks?
What can I take from baby food on a plane?
First of all, let's determine that is allowed to take baby food in hand luggage.
It is necessary to prepare food for the child if you have transfers and a long journey from the airport to your destination, as well as if you are flying on a low-cost airline (low-cost) airline. So, for a child, you can take:
- baby food jars, drinks, milk formula;
- suitable snack foods: fresh and dried fruits, nuts, crackers, corn sticks;
- basic food (needed while waiting for a transfer or when flying with a low-cost airline): it is advisable to take such food that the child is used to and which is convenient to eat in "marching" conditions, without cutlery;
- sour-milk drinks or products (it is important for children to get such food when the climate changes).
When planning to take food with you, calculate the amount based on the fact that airlines also offer baby food (see below).
Perishable products must be carried in a cooler bag. However, we remind you that for the safety of air travel , most of the items are checked in before boarding the plane in baggage .
What if you need to take baby food with you not only for the duration of the flight, but also for the entire holiday?
If food is in a cardboard or metal package, then it will not be damaged in luggage, but if you have to carry mashed potatoes in glass jars or sour-milk products that need to be stored in the refrigerator, then it is clear that you cannot check them in luggage - fragile packaging can simply break .
You will most likely be asked to pack the food jars separately and hand them in at the front desk. They will not be transported in the baggage compartment, but directly in the cabin, and you will be given them before leaving the aircraft.
How much baby food should I take with me?
The need to carry a large supply of jars with you (for the entire holiday period) may arise if the baby has allergies and other food simply does not suit him, or if you go, for example, to resorts Egypt or Thailand , whose hotels are often remote from supermarkets and it will be difficult to quickly purchase baby food.
In this case, we recommend that you call the carrier in advance and consult about the possibility of carrying a certain amount of food in the cabin, in addition to hand luggage.
Usually, in such a situation, the airlines meet halfway and do not refuse the request.
If you are planning a vacation in European resorts (for example, at Austria, Germany, Bulgaria and others) or your vacation is associated with visiting large cities ( Vienna, Munich, Prague and others), then you should not worry about the supply of baby food: you can buy it at any time in a nearby supermarket or pharmacy.
What additional questions should I ask the air carrier during travel planning before arriving at the airport?
How much hand luggage can I take on a plane?
The weight of carry-on luggage varies between companies. Usually it ranges from 5 to 10 kg per person. When flying in business class, hand luggage can carry much more weight than in economy class.
If you are flying on a low-cost airline, you should definitely find out from the carrier whether hand luggage is included in the ticket price - some budget companies take separate, very significant money for carrying hand luggage.
Traveling with a child by plane:
What are the best places on the plane to choose if you are flying with children
The good news is that many major Russian carriers offer this service for free, regardless of flight class.
Children's menus can be ordered free of charge on all long-haul flights of the German airline Lufthansa and on some European flights when booking tickets, or by calling the Lufthansa Service Center no later than 24 hours before the departure of your aircraft.
The airline's children's menu is designed by renowned chef Stefan Marquard. Food for children is a topic close to the heart of this master, who is the author of a children's cookbook. With his out-of-the-ordinary ideas and fun recipes, he excelled in creating dishes that were both healthy and appealing to children.
On the other hand, there is a limited amount of baby food for babies under 2 years of age on board each Austrian Airlines flight . Pre-order is not necessary - just ask the flight attendants.
Ukrainian airline UIA also offers meals for children (from 2 to 10 years old) on its flights, the need for which must be provided at least 50 hours before the scheduled flight departure. This service has recently been paid, the children's menu will cost parents 8 euros.
Aeroflot and Rossiya have baby food and baby food (soft chewable food for children from 2 years old and portioned milk and baby food in assortment (Aeroflot) or puree in jars (“Russia”) for children under 2 years old
Special meals must be ordered no later than 36 hours before departure One important nuance: ordering special meals on Aeroflot flights in Economy class is available on flights over 3 hours, in JSC Rossiya Airlines it is possible in Economy class on flights lasting more than 4 hours, in Business class - on flights lasting more than 1 hour.
Ural Airlines is ready to provide baby food if ordered at least 24 hours before departure. You should check with the carrier directly about what offers for baby food international companies have.
The Turkish airline Turkish Airlines also always takes care of its young passengers. A set of baby food is served in a colorful design with a toy. Usually the menu includes a salad, a second course (potatoes and meatballs), sweet pudding. Drinks to choose from: tea, ayran, juices, water.
You can make an order for special meals (any) in advance, at least 24 hours before the departure of your flight, by phone at the call center or the nearest office of the airline.
For reference. Nutrition codes: infant (for children under two years old) - BBML, children's (for children from two years old) - CHML.
How to transport canned food and baby drinks?
The rules for conducting a pre-flight screening in force in the Russian Federation contain a list of items that are allowed to be carried in hand luggage subject to special requirements.
This list includes: mercury medical thermometer, liquids in containers up to 100 ml with a total volume of up to 1 liter (they must be packed in a separate transparent plastic bag), medicines, special dietary needs, baby food, including mother's milk, in the amount required for the entire duration of the flight.
In order to avoid a conflict at the airport during the screening over the number of jars of baby food required for the flight, it is advisable to agree on the procedure for their transportation in advance.
We also recommend purchasing special baby water to avoid disputes about whether it is liquid or baby food.
In conclusion, I would like to note that sometimes airlines publish on their websites far from the entire list of services that they provide to passengers with children.
Don't be afraid to call the carrier's representative to find out everything you need to know and what extra help you can get if you're traveling with a child. Use this simple "key", and then the journey will be a joy to you.
Recommended: Do I want to fly, or Flying a child without parents
Now that you are armed with all the necessary information about baby food on board, you can safely move on to searching for the most suitable flights and booking air tickets. And of course, if you go on holiday with a child, do not forget to take out travel insurance .
It is not expensive, it takes almost no time for registration. But on the other hand, it will save you from unnecessary troubles while traveling, if God forbid something happens to the child. How to choose and what to look for when buying insurance you will learn from our Special Article . Happy travels to you and your children!

refused dairy cuisine
Author profile
In Russia, expectant mothers and families with children can receive free food.
Each subject has its own rules. I received kits at a dairy kitchen in Moscow - I'll tell you who usually gets help and how to get it in different regions.
What is a dairy kitchen
The forerunners of the dairy kitchen were centers called "A Drop of Milk" where they gave out food for premature babies. They appeared in the Russian Empire in 1901.
Dairy kitchen - Big Medical Encyclopedia
There are more such organizations in the USSR. Dairy kitchens helped save the lives of many children during the Second World War: then they began to offer additional food, including to full-term babies. They continued to do so after the war.
Today there is no concept of "dairy cuisine" in Russian legislation. But there is a guarantee: according to the doctor, children under three years old, pregnant and lactating women must be provided with food. What to give and to what extent - the leadership of each region decides independently.
Art. 52 of the law "On the Fundamentals of Protecting the Health of Citizens in the Russian Federation"
How to get a dairy kitchen in Moscow
Only people with a Moscow residence permit can use a dairy kitchen in Moscow. Who will be given food:
- pregnant and lactating women;
- formula-fed or formula-fed children under 6 months of age;
- children from 6 months to 3 years;
- children under 7 from large families;
- children under 15 with chronic diseases: glomerulonephritis, hemoblastosis, malignant neoplasms;
- disabled children under 18 years of age.
Order on improving the organization of free food provision
But you can’t just come to the dairy kitchen for groceries: you need to submit an application electronically on the Mos-ru portal and visit the local doctor once. For this, pregnant women need to contact the antenatal clinic, in all other cases, the conclusion will be issued at the children's clinic to which the child is attached.
Sample application for a dairy kitchen in Moscow. Parent and child data are automatically pulled from the profile on the Mos-ru website, and you can choose any convenient milk distribution point, and not just at the place of residenceHere's what you need to verify food eligibility:
- Pregnant woman's passport or child's birth certificate, along with either parent's passport.
- MHI policy for a pregnant woman or child.
- Certificate of registration of a child in Moscow (Form 8), pregnant women need to show the registration page in their passport instead.
- If the child is under guardianship, you will additionally need a document confirming the establishment of guardianship.
- If the child is older than 3 years, you will need to confirm his benefits: a certificate of a large family, a certificate from a medical and social examination, or a medical certificate confirming the presence of a chronic disease will do.
How products are distributed in the dairy kitchen
Previously, parents received a paper prescription from the doctor for a month: they had to stamp it at the reception, and then take it to the dairy kitchen strictly before the 10th day of the month. It was tiresome.
Now everything has changed. After a visit to the doctor and filling out an application on the portal, the information is automatically transferred to the dairy kitchen. After that, Muscovites can place orders at Mos-ru, choose milk distribution points, manage the schedule for receiving food, including setting the frequency of receipt - one-time or weekly. It is also possible to choose the days to visit the pickup point, and also view information about the volume of products that can be received on the selected day.
That is, every month you do not need to go to the doctor for a prescription. There is no need to extend the benefit either: it will be valid until, for example, a pregnant woman gives birth to a child or he reaches the age of three.
Food must be ordered monthly by the 15th. After placing an order, the portal generates an electronic direction - a QR code. It must be printed or saved on the phone and shown at the milk distribution point. The employee will scan the referral and issue a grocery set.
According to the rules, dairy kitchens give out food packages only to parents, and if you need someone else to receive them, you need to issue a power of attorney. In reality, you can negotiate with employees: sometimes my brother got the dairy kitchen and no one asked for additional paperwork.
Before you go to the dairy kitchen, think about how you will collect food. We had to take a taxi, and other parents came with hiking backpacks: a set for a child of 6-12 months for 30 days weighs about 10 kg.
Schedule and opening hours of the dairy kitchen in Moscow. Dairy kitchens in the capital are open from 06:30 to 15:00 daily. From 12:30 to 13:00 - lunch break.
What kind of products are given in the dairy kitchen in Moscow
Pregnant, lactating women and children of different ages are given different amounts and composition of products. Mothers are given juice and milk, and babies are given supplementary or complementary foods, depending on their age. These can be mixtures, canned purees, instant cereals and similar juices and milk, as for mothers.

Free food for 11 months baby for 30 daysMy experience of getting food in a dairy kitchen
I started getting free food when I was pregnant. I was observed at the antenatal clinic by registration, so, according to the old rules, the recipe was given to me for the nearest dairy kitchen. But due to the fact that I live in a different area, getting groceries was inconvenient. They found a way out quickly: my younger brother began to call for boxes. The products remained with him: I didn’t really need them.
When our daughter was born, we assigned her to a polyclinic in our place of residence. They began to receive recipes for a dairy kitchen near the house. As a nursing mother, I was given juice and milk. I did not plan to take these products, but my brother liked them. Therefore, we used the recipe.

How to introduce complementary foods to children
Later, I learned that in the first six months we were also given a dairy kitchen for our daughter: she was mixed-fed. But for some reason, the pediatrician did not report this. True, this fact did not upset me much: I fed my daughter with Nutrilon Comfort, they are not given out in sets. And we would not change the mixture just to get it for free: for a baby, this is fraught with digestive problems.
What purees, juices and mixtures did they give us? I read the advice of pediatricians on social networks and decided, at least at first, to follow the composition of baby food. I didn’t want fanaticism in food, but mashed potatoes without unnecessary components were important to me. Therefore, in the first month of complementary foods, I carefully chose jars of mashed potatoes, which we bought with our own money.
From 6 months we began to receive dairy products. I was pleasantly surprised: there was nothing superfluous in the compositions. Therefore, for six months we actively used the food that was given to us. Monthly it was possible to save 1000-2000 R. Now baby food has risen in price, so you can save even more.
up to 2000 R

The variety of canned purees in the dairy kitchen pleased me. First, they gave the classic trio of vegetables that are recommended to start complementary foods with: broccoli, cauliflower and zucchini from Agushi. True, I didn’t really like the Agusha zucchini: it was too liquid and it was inconvenient to feed a child with it. Later, carrots and pumpkins of the same brand were added - with excellent composition and consistency.
Meat puree was also varied: the sets included poultry, beef, and veal. From 9months, jars of “chicken and vegetables” and “beef and vegetables” began to be issued. My daughter still eats this, despite the fact that she mostly prefers a common table. By the way, for some reason, there were no fish in the set from the dairy kitchen, although the pediatrician's memo said that fish should be introduced from 10-11 months.
Meat puree from the dairy kitchen had a good composition. True, the smell was not very appetizing, but my daughter ate with pleasureFruit puree was also given out by Agusha. The compositions were good, the tastes were different: we came across an apple, a pear, a peach. When my daughter got older, they began to give puree from several fruits and berries, for example, "apple, cherry, blueberry."
In addition, the set contained a mixture of two types: dry and liquid. We refused the liquid mixture: my daughter ate another, and in the kitchen they gave the same Agusha. The liquid mixture was packed in a separate box, so the husband immediately said: “We don’t take this.” We gave Nestogen dry mix to friends.

Corn flakes and "children's menu": what not to feed a child
My daughter fell in love with Agusha cottage cheese: she liked trying to eat from plastic packaging on her own.
What I didn't like about the dairy kitchen
First of all, the composition of some of the products that were given out on a monthly basis was contrary to the recommendations for complementary foods.
National program for optimizing the feeding of infants in the first year of life in the Russian Federation - methodological recommendations of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, p. 45PDF, 4.45 MB
Moreover, the recommendations were issued by a pediatrician in the very clinic where they wrote out a prescription for dairy cuisine. The documents indicated that the products were issued in accordance with the age marking of the manufacturer, but in our case this did not always coincide with reality.
For example, milk porridges were not recommended until 9 months of age. In fact, we began to receive instant cereals with powdered milk from 7 months. Even the pediatrician did not advise giving fruit juice until a year old. And we began to receive it from 6 months - as a result, adults drank the juice from us.

Secondly, cereals included fructose and milk powder. Rospotrebnadzor does not recommend introducing sugar up to a year. And WHO recommends to refrain from cow's milk in favor of breast milk, as cow's milk is too rich in protein and sodium.
We started getting milk porridge "Agusha" from 8 months. Unlike other products, its composition was not idealThirdly, did not contain mashed potatoes with chunks in the packages. This was a little depressing: it is recommended to start introducing pieces from 9-10 months.
But in the end, I understand that mashing food with a fork is much easier than making a full-fledged puree on your own. In addition, I know that in other regions the level of support for the authorities is significantly lower compared to Moscow. So I was grateful for what I have.
Why did we end up giving up free products
This happened simultaneously for two reasons. The first - by the year my daughter switched to a common table. The second - a set of products for children from the age of one did not suit her.
For example, I try to give cow's milk and juices as treats, the rest of the time she drinks water. My daughter prefers grained cottage cheese and ordinary cereals to dry cereals and children's creamy cottage cheese: she likes to eat them with her hands or with a spoon. I never add sugar to buckwheat or rice - purchased cereals cannot boast of this.
The only thing that could really be useful to us from the set for children from one year old is Agusha kefir, it has a good composition. But they give a lot of it, and the shelf life is short. On the one hand, this is good: it means that there are no preservatives in kefir, with which ultra-pasteurized milk is stored for months. But on the other hand, we had to drink kefir with the whole family until it got spoiled.

In addition, it was simply unprofitable to force my husband to go to the dairy kitchen for one yogurt.
How are things going with free meals in the regions
Each region independently determines what products, to whom and in what quantities to provide. In some regions, payments are assigned instead of products.
You can usually find out if there is a dairy kitchen in the region and who is entitled to it, usually at the children's clinic or social security departments. I will tell you about how things are in several large regions.

St. Petersburg. In St. Petersburg there is neither a dairy kitchen nor compensation. But there is a "children's" card - it receives regional payments and benefits: for example, a one-time compensation payment for the birth of a child or a monthly allowance for a child up to one and a half years. You can only spend money on baby products in certain stores, including baby food.
Rules for using a "children's" card - St. Petersburg public services portal
You can order a card together with a one-time payment at the birth of a child. This is done online on the public services website or through the MFC. The card will be ready within three months, the service is free. You will need a passport to get it.
Nizhny Novgorod. Dairy products are distributed only to low-income families until the child is 2 years old.
