The Israeli government intends to sue the German baby food company Humana, which produces baby soy milk.

In Israel, as a result of the consumption of this product, three babies died and about 20 more babies became seriously ill, writes Ha'aretz .

The condition of four more children remains serious, and irreversible changes may have occurred in their brains. All of them were fed exclusively or almost exclusively with this mixture from birth.

All the affected children had "acute deficiency of vitamin B1", which led to "severe disorders of the central nervous system".

In a statement from the Israeli Ministry of Health, it is specifically noted that the presence of vitamin B1 in the composition of the product was indicated on the packages of baby food.

This product is manufactured by Humana and distributed in Israel by distributor Remedia.

Dorit Nitzan-Kaluski, head of the Ministry of Health's food and nutrition department, said Remedia, which imports non-dairy food from Germany while complying with "kashrut requirements," did not inform the ministry that the formula was changed in April. The changes resulted in the powdered formula being made without the vital vitamin, she said. Because the company did not ask for approval, the ministry did not review the product's formula, writes The Jerusalem Post Minister Boaz Lev told reporters late Sunday that he asked the prosecutor's office to investigate the case because Remedia and Humana may have committed a crime by labeling the product as containing vitamin B1. In addition, the product was sold without the approval of the ministry, Lev said.

He added that the Ministry of Health is not afraid of lawsuits, because "our oversight mechanisms meet the most stringent international standards. Remedia received a certificate for its products, but violated the rules."

The Ministry checked the formula at registration, and the samples were last tested in 2002. "We can't check everything all the time. It's like in a bank. You don't check all the time to see if the money is there," Lev said.

Humana produced this soy milk specifically for deliveries to Israel.

It is also reported that Israel's internal security services Shin Bet and the foreign intelligence service Mossad will conduct their own investigation into this incident. Some representatives of the special services believe that the poisoning of children with milk could be the result of someone's conscious actions, that is, a terrorist attack.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to all Jewish communities in the US and Europe to "refrain from using Remedia products."

In turn, the Remedia company has already taken up "all-round defense". All employees of the company are strictly forbidden to communicate with the media.

The Israeli government intends to seek the revocation of Humana's international trade license.

In the near future, the company faces much more serious troubles than the possible revocation of the license. Observers believe that the company will face a wave of lawsuits from citizens whose children have suffered from the use of Remedia milk.

The Israeli Ministry of Health confirmed that about 5,000 babies were fed Remedia soy milk in the country. The Ministry of Health urges all parents who have fed their children this product to urgently contact the doctors so that the children can receive injections of vitamin B-1. All assistance to the victims will be provided urgently and completely free of charge.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said that Remedia "deceived and betrayed the trust of the Israeli government and the Israeli people. It is impossible to say for sure whether this was done on purpose or by accident."

Igor Bulanov, a representative of Humana GMBH, said that thorough studies were carried out in three laboratories at once - Shymkent, Astana and Germany, where the Humana plant is located, however, there are no harmful substances, especially mercury, in the samples of the mixture from the same batch of the product discovered. The company is now calculating the material damage from the incident and very soon they promise to contact the police.

"According to our statement dated December 7, the National Center for Expertise conducted a study of Humana powdered milk formula for the safety of the mixture, the presence or absence of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and bacteriological studies. According to the results of the examination, there are no no harmful substances and heavy metals were detected. Therefore, the information is false. Representatives of Humana GMBH are outraged by the absurdity of the statement and intend to restore their business reputation. And also recover from the perpetrators the costs incurred and losses associated with this incident, "said a representative of Humana GMBH Igor Bulanov.

At the same time, he noted that the company hopes that the investigation into the poisoning of the child will be brought to its logical conclusion and the true cause of his illness will be revealed. In the meantime, it seems that a large-scale investigation into the non-trivial poisoning of a child has reached a dead end. Three doctors were invited to the briefing at once - from the Department of Public Health, the Department of Health and the hospital in which they fought for the life of the baby, but no one could shed light on what and where in reality got into the body of a tiny baby.

"The remains of a baby food product were sent to the laboratory in the presence of the father of the child. Also, with a representative of the Humana trademark, two packages from the same batch were handed over to the laboratory for analysis. "Regarding incomprehensible inclusions, we contacted the National Center for Expertise and provided biological material (feces) in order to obtain conclusions. Inna Glazebnaya, head of the maternal and child health department of the Shymkent City Health Department, said that after the incident, the hospital conducted an internal investigation and checked the mixtures fed to small patients, but everything is in order there. "Consultations were held with narrow specialists - toxicologists, surgeons, and it was ruled out that the child was poisoned by any other substances, possibly mercury. This child food was not prescribed, and any exposure to mercury was ruled out, since all studies, including thermometry, are carried out with mercury-free thermometers. There are no sources of mercury in the hospital," says Inna Glazebnaya.

Information that a two-month-old boy may have been poisoned by mercury from infant formula was provided to journalists by the child's parents themselves. They said that the son was hospitalized in a children's hospital on November 30 with indomitable vomiting immediately in intensive care.
