Whether you have multiple little ones to look after on your own or a lot of things to get done during feeding time, a hands-free bottle holder is an option for many parents. This device is designed to hold the bottle for babies who are too young to hold it themselves. The bottle holder makes feeding time easier for parents while ensuring babies are getting the nourishment they need.
There are different types of hands-free bottle holders. A common variety are the hanging kind, which can be suspended from bars such as those on a carseat or baby bouncer. The bottle straps into a section that hangs down at baby’s height, so they can latch on easily. Another style is with a stand, which can be placed on a flat surface, such as the tray of a high chair. The bottle fits into the stand, allowing babies to drink their meal. A third bottle holder style is one that goes over the shoulder of a parent or caregiver. There is a section to attach the bottle and place it at just the right height for the baby to feed. In this style, the parent or caregiver has to hold the baby while with the other two styles they do not.
There are many situations when a hands-free bottle holder can come in handy. For example, the over-the-shoulder style is useful when parents want to eat their own meal at the same time as feeding baby or have other children to tend to. One arm holds the baby while the other arm is free for other tasks. Hanging or stand hands-free bottle holders are ideal for parents of twins, triplets or more multiples because they can feed all of the babies at the same time instead of having to do it one by one.
- Safety is critical when it comes to using hands-free bottle holders. Keep in mind that young babies do not have the ability to move their necks independently. As a result, there is a risk of choking when using a hands-free bottle holder as they may not be able to pull away from the bottle if they need to. In addition, sometimes babies can overfeed when using these gadgets as they aren’t able to signal to their parents when they’ve had enough or need to take a break.
- When using a hands-free bottle holder, it’s vital to always stay within arm’s reach of baby at all times. This way, if you notice that baby wants to pull away from the bottle or has too much in their mouth, you can remove it for them. Plus, being close by also enables you to bond with baby while they are feeding.
- Getting the position right with a hands-free bottle holder is key so you don’t cause baby to strain their neck or head too far. When feeding babies with a bottle by hand, you have the ability to adjust your position to match baby’s during the feed. However, this is more difficult with a bottle holder so it’s important to get the perfect position at the start.
- Keep an eye to make sure baby doesn’t fall asleep while feeding with a hands-free bottle holder, as the milk from the bottle can dribble into the ear. This can lead to issues such as ear infections.
- As with anything to do with babies, mess is inevitable. Be sure to check how to clean the hands-free bottle holder so you can avoid any stains or stuck-on dried milk.

An easy-to-make holder used to hang a small bird feeder on the wall of the house.
Hello to all DIY lovers!
Late autumn has come, and soon winter will begin, which means that it's time to hang up feeders for feeding small birds (tits, sparrows, etc.). This will help them survive the winter, and they, in turn, will help us in the summer, destroying insects, crop pests in gardens and orchards.
Usually in the winter, we always hang the feeder outside the window in front of the window, so that it is convenient to fill it with fine food. In this case, the feeder itself is hung on a special mount.
Here is a photo of this mount, which I took about eight, nine years ago. It has served well all these years and is now also in excellent condition (I just had to repaint it).
So this mount will easily last the same amount, or even more.
In the past, when we had old wooden windows, this fixture was constantly hanging on one of the window slopes. In late autumn, they hung a feeder on it, and removed it in the spring.
However, now, after we replaced the wooden windows with plastic ones, I thought that it would not look very good if this fixture was hanging on the window all year round.
So I decided to make this mount easy to hang in the fall and also easy to remove in the spring. At the same time, since the mount itself is in good condition, I did not make a new one, but decided to simply add one structural detail to it - a holder that is easy to manufacture, with which the whole structure will be hung on the wall of the house.
In essence, this holder will be a canopy that will be put on two screws screwed into the outer wall of the house.
for the manufacture of such a holder, I needed the following accessories:
Materials and fixing elements:
- wooden bar 4x4 cm, and with a length of 25-30 cm.
- The very old mount for the feeder.
- Two wood screws 4x50 mm.
- Two wood screws 4x70 mm.
Tools:
- Drawing and measuring tools (pencil, tape measure and square).
- Shilo.
- Electric jigsaw with a file for a figured cut.
- Hand router with cutter (optional).
- Electric drill-driver.
- Drill for metal with a diameter of 4 mm.
- Spherical cutter for wood.
- Hole saw for wood with a diameter of 19 mm.
- Screwdriver bit PH2, for driving screws.
- Sandpaper.
On both sides of the bar I drilled through holes with a 4 mm drill.
Then, on one side of the block, at some distance from the previously drilled hole, I sawed a hole with a diameter of 19 mm with a hole saw.
After that, I sawed off the ends of the bar.
And saw through the grooves.
One slot from the end of the bar to a 4 mm diameter hole.
And the second groove on the other end of the bar, between the two holes.
In this case, the length of both grooves must be the same, since with these grooves, the holder will be put on the screws.
I then decided to chamfer the grooves again. To do this, I used a router with a pointed end mill, pressing the holder to the workbench with a clamp.
Although, in general, for such an operation, it is not necessary to use a milling cutter at all, but you can get by with a simple semicircular chisel, as well as a spherical cutter for wood. However, it is possible to do without this technological operation altogether.
Next, sand the holder.
And now the holder for the feeder and its attachment is ready!
Now you need to paint it white, the color of the main attachment of the feeder, as well as the color of the window and trim.
After the holder was dry, I screwed the feeder holder to it with two screws.
And here is the final view of our holder assembly.
Now you can hang it next to the window by attaching it with two screws to the outer wall of the house next to the trim.
But I have already hung a feeder on this holder and pour seeds.
By the way, if anyone is interested in the design of such a feeder, see my article: "Homemade feeder for small birds from a plastic bottle."
And now everything is ready for feeding small birds, which, by the way, have been flying in for several days and impudently knocking on windowpanes with their beaks, demanding food. :e113:
Now this holder with a feeder will hang on the wall of the house until spring, and in the spring I will remove the feeder, and at the same time the holder, which will only need to be moved up a little and removed (perhaps with this You will need to slightly loosen the screws).
The shurpas themselves will remain in the wall, but since they are black, they will be completely invisible on a dark green wall.
Well, that's all for me!
Bye everyone, don't forget to feed the birds in winter!
GBU DO TsDYUTT "OHTA" - Ecological and social action "Master bird feeders"
Environmental and social action "Master bird feeders" within the framework of the work of the Children's club "SAMODELKIN"
In the Krasnogvardeisky district for children and their parents, the Okhta Center for Children's (Youth) Technical Creativity, with the support of the administration of the Krasnogvardeisky district, implements the creative project "Children's Club" SAMODELKIN ".
The children's club was opened in partnership with Maksidom LLC in the building of the MAXIDOM hypermarket at the address: st. Peredovikov, 18, bldg. 2.
As part of the work of the SAMODELKIN Children's Club in 2017 and 2018, an environmental and social campaign "Masters of bird feeders" was organized, in which school students and residents of the Krasnogvardeisky district take part.
The purpose of the action is to promote and popularize technical creativity among the children of the Krasnogvardeisky district, to develop interest in applied arts, educational work in the field of ecology, and the development of social partnership.
Ecological and social campaign "Masters of Bird Feeders" takes place in four stages:
The first stage is the production of bird feeders as part of the work of the SAMODELKIN children's club, schoolchildren of the Krasnogvardeisky district together with their parents and teachers under the guidance of teachers of the Central Children's and Youth Theater "Ohta" make feeders with their own hands according to specially prepared instructions.
The second stage is decorating bird feeders using the fine art technique.
The third stage - hanging feeders in forest parks, recreation parks and walking areas located on the territory of the Krasnogvardeisky district.
Fourth stage - bird feeding during the whole autumn-winter period.
In 2017, 70 people took part in the Ecological and Social Action "Bird Feeders Craftsmen", 12 bird feeders were made.
Pupils of the Okhta Children's and Youth Sports Center hung feeders on trees in Polyustrovskiy park. Athletes - radio orienteers of the Okhta Center for Children's (Youth) Technical Creativity, who take practical classes in the park, fed the birds in the cold winter period, made sure that the feeders were never empty.
In 2018, the second campaign was held in the MAXIDOM hypermarket, in which more than 120 schoolchildren of the Krasnogvardeisky district took part, and 25 bird feeders were made.
Students of creative associations of the Okhta Central Children's and Youth Sports Theater beautifully decorated the "canteens" for their feathered friends, and according to the already established tradition, radio orienteering athletes hung bird feeders on trees in the parks and squares of the Krasnogvardeisky district, so that birds could always find food during the cold season .
Children from other creative associations of the Central Children's Youth Theater "Okhta" also took part in the action, hung feeders on trees in the parks and squares of the Krasnogvardeisky district and make sure that the feeders are not empty.
The organizers and participants of the action are sure that the residents of our region will not remain indifferent and will definitely join the action. In order to help residents not to make a mistake in choosing a treat for birds, the children of the Okhta Children's and Youth Sports Center prepared information booklets specifically for the action, which says what kind of food is best left in the "canteens for birds" (the booklets are attached to the feeders), and also made a map with indicating the locations of "canteens for birds".
