Banana and strawberry baby food

Strawberry and Banana Baby Food Puree

Jump to Recipe

Today’s recipe is one of the easiest on our site – but it’s also one of our little ones’ favourite flavour combinations!

Banana and strawberry were just meant to go together!

Even if the strawberries you use in this recipe are slightly tart, the banana sweetens them up perfectly.

What’s more, banana has a great texture for tiny diners. So whereas a strawberry puree might be somewhat runny, the consistency is ideal when you mix it with banana.

It has a gorgeous colour too, making it even more appealing to your little one!

This Strawberry and Banana Baby Food Puree is suitable from 6 months of age, with your doctor’s consent.

Up until recently, doctors recommend waiting until babies were at least 12 months of age before introducing strawberries. This is because strawberries can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive babies, causing symptoms such as a rash around the mouth, hives or diaper rash.

Recently, however, guidelines have changed.

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that foods considered to be ‘highly allergic’ – including strawberries, wheat and peanuts – can now be offered from 6 months of age.

There are times when this might not be appropriate – if there is a family history of food allergy, for example, or if your baby has asthma.

So the safest option is to discuss the introduction of strawberries with your child’s doctor.

Why you should use organic strawberries in this recipe

The Environmental Working Group names strawberries as one of its ‘Dirty Dozen’ – the fruits and vegetables highest in pesticide residues. We recommend buying organic strawberries in order to remove this risk to your baby’s health.

Other ideas

This puree tastes great, just as it is – but there are a few different ways you could use it…

  • Use as a dipping sauce
  • Stir into rice cereal, cooked oatmeal, buckwheat, barley or quinoa
  • Pour a little over homemade pancakes

To Make Strawberry and Banana Baby Food Puree You Will Need

1/2 ripe banana
1 large, ripe strawberry

Either mash the banana and strawberry together with a fork or blend them using a hand blender or baby food processor until smooth.

For older babies, puree the strawberry, but lightly mash the banana. This will leave soft little lumps, which are a great way to introduce your baby to texture.

This recipe makes one serving.

We prefer to make this dish as and when needed. Although it’s possible to make a batch in advance and freeze it, we find that the colour and texture are not as good when it’s thawed.

Fortunately, this recipe is so quick and easy that it’s ready in just a minute or two!

Prep Time 2 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 large, ripe strawberry

Instructions

  1. Either mash the banana and strawberry together with a fork or blend them using a hand blender or baby food processor until smooth.
  2. For older babies, puree the strawberry, but lightly mash the banana to leave soft little lumps.

Notes

This dish is best served immediately after preparation.

Strawberry Puree with Banana - Encyclopedia Baby Food

Strawberry puree is an ideal fruit food for a baby over 12 months old. Bright color, pleasant sweet taste and aroma will give a lot of sensations to a small child. To enrich the taste buds of the baby, you can mix strawberries and bananas, you get an amazing baby puree that can be safely given as soon as strawberries are introduced into the complementary foods, as they are introduced later.

Strawberries and bananas are rich in vitamin C, which is very useful for a child who is often ill.

Strawberries are rich in nutrients. Half a cup of chopped strawberries provides 49 milligrams of vitamin C, which is 98% of the daily value for children aged 6 to 12 months. It is also an excellent source of magnesium, vitamin B6 and iron. And contains about 2 grams of fiber per serving. Please note that many people are allergic to strawberries, so we take precautions when a child tries it for the first time. You can find more details in our article.

Bananas are a sweet fruit loved by almost all babies. The fruit is soft enough to mash with a fork (or gums) and has many health benefits. Bananas are high in potassium, which is said to regulate blood pressure. They also boast a variety of other minerals as well as certain vitamins, including vitamins A, B6, B12, and folate.

Strawberry and banana puree is bright, medium in consistency, fragrant and tasty.

If strawberry and banana puree is frozen, this baby puree can be mixed with cereals or yogurt, which will enrich the taste of the baby's usual food, especially in winter. However, do not forget that baby puree can be stored frozen for no more than 3 months, so it is better to use whole pieces of strawberries and a fresh banana.

Introduced Complementary Foods: Strawberry & Banana

Banana & Cherry Puree Suitable for babies over 12 months old.

  • Mix the strawberries with a blender.

  • Mix the banana with a blender.

  • Mix strawberry and banana puree, mix thoroughly.

  • Do not add sugar

  • Recipe notes

Keep Strawberry Banana Puree for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. I draw your attention to the fact that banana puree may darken when it comes into contact with air, so that this does not happen, you can add 1 teaspoon of lemon or orange juice, but if these fruits are introduced into the baby's diet. Citrus products are usually introduced after 2-3 years of age. Therefore, it is best to cook strawberry puree with a banana at a time, either freeze the leftovers or eat them. Frozen strawberry and banana baby puree can be stored for about 3 months.

I had some doubts about how to remove the ice cream from the mold later, but it turned out to be fantastically simple and interesting, moreover. Thanks to Vera Nerozya for the ice cream recipe, only I reduced the amount of powder and cream, it was so sweet and tasty!

    Cut ripe bananas into pieces.

Strawberries too, cut into 3-4 pieces.

Add powdered sugar (heaped spoon). In the original - 150 g.

Pour in the cream (I have 10%). The original was 150 ml.

    Blend with a blender.

Put in the freezer for an hour.

    Beat again.

Freeze for 1-2 hours. Whisk. And so repeat only 3 times.

These are the freaks I received from the site as a gift.

Each cell has its own leg, I did not immediately realize this.

Open the lids, rinse the silicone molds.

Fill with ice cream until it is thick and completely set.

Like this. There is still ice cream left.

So I took out my old molds and filled 3 cells completely.

We spent the night in the freezer. We took our time to make it work. Slowly she began to pull out the ice cream, as if we were removing a stocking.

Nothing has fallen off and all the ice creams are intact!

As you can see, the molds come off easily and all you have to do is rinse and dry.

My old molds do not immediately part with ice cream, you need to rinse them under the tap with hot water and then everything will work out.

    Decorating ice cream with strawberries.

On this occasion, I took out gift spoons.

Serve on a large dish or take out one by one when you want to freshen up.

Delicious with coffee instead of dessert.

Ice cream melts moderately and holds its shape for some time.

Sample remains to be taken. Let's treat ourselves!

A little humor at the end. For the Ligo holiday, beer-flavored sweets “Korovka” were released in Latvia. The fact is that on this holiday, which lasts June 23-24 (as the second New Year), everyone drinks beer, sings songs and dances folk dances. We also went to barbecue at the dacha, had a good time and put a couple of photos in the profile.

So we couldn't resist and tried. The usual classic “Korovka” (here it is a national brand and sweets are sold with various additives: nuts, seeds, chocolate, raisins, caramel, mint, dried fruits), which is really very tasty, but these have a slight hint of hops, otherwise everything classics.
