Baby food jar lights
Delightful DIY: Baby Food Jar Lanterns | Archives
Story and Photos by Kate Burke
Summer nights mean staying out late, bonfires in the backyard, and getting together with friends to savor the heat that is sure to disappear come fall. Lighting is a great way to set summer mood, but ditch those electric lights and bust out more eco-friendly candles to brighten the night. These simple and cheap Moroccan-inspired miniature lanterns should do the trick.
Estimated cost: About $15 dollars (for multiple candles)
Time to complete: About 45 minutes
You will need:
• Glass paint (found at any craft store for 5 dollars or less) in turquoise and magenta
• 3 Baby food jars (any grocery store will have these – only 50 cents each!)
• Gold wire (found at any craft or hardware store for about 2 dollars)
• Pliers
• Gold paint pen or gold puff paint (I prefer the look of puff paint, but I already had the pen, so I used that here)
• Paintbrush
• 3 tea lights
Get started!
1. Soak the baby food jars in hot water and remove the labels. Make sure that all the sticky white glue comes off.
2. Paint the inside of your jar with the glass paint. Allow the inside to dry while you paint the remaining jars. The tops of the jars are difficult to paint, but don’t worry about leaving them bare- they will be covered in the next step.
3. Use the gold puff paint or pen to outline the top and bottom of your jars. Then, create any design in the middle. You can make these jars as simple or as detailed as you please.
4. Put one tea light in each jar.
5. Cut one wire strip for each jar that is about 6 inches long. With the pliers, bend the ends of the wire up so a little loop is created at each end.
6. Slightly bend the wire in half so that it fits inside the top of the jar. Then, let it expand so that it catches the sides of the jar and becomes a handle.
7. Light with a match and enjoy the glow!

11 interesting and convenient ideas for storing spices
1 Paint the lids with slate paint
9002 type of seasoning, you can change the signatures, since the letters on the slate paint are easy to erase and write with chalk again.Photo: Instagram tatileon.likko
For example, baby food jars are used here
2 Store spices in "tubes"
The original method of storage, like in an old pharmacy. Lovers of non-standard solutions and retro ideas will definitely like it. Ideal for Scandinavian style and hand-made interiors.

3 Attach jars to top kitchen drawers
Place them on a magnet under the frame of the cabinet or remove the bottom of the frame and make it a lattice so that the jars have something to hook on. But the first option, of course, is preferable - removing the cans from the magnet and attaching them back is easier and faster.

4 Use cabinet door for storage
Another magnetic option, this time on cabinet door. Convenient and practically does not take up space in the kitchen, while so many jars would definitely need a separate shelf.

5 Place the jars on top of each other and label them
A versatile idea that you can't help but love. Looks simple and stylish. To make the jars the same metallic color, you can use spray paint.

6 Make spice racks
For those who know how to work with wood and are not afraid of saws and hammers, this idea will do. Make a shelf out of wooden beams where your jars of spices would fit. And store them with the lid forward so it will be easy to find the seasoning you need.

7 Label the bottom of the jars
We usually see the opposite: label the lids. But there is another solution - to sign the bottom of the can. You can stick a special sticker-sticker for this - now similar ones are sold in small shops and home decor.

Signatures can also be made on the bottom of the jar
8 Use the drawer liners
Special accessories help keep the drawers in order. Simply place the insert in the drawer and arrange the spice jars. The seasoning you need will definitely not be lost.

9 Buy regular rails
Standard rails are not a new idea for storing spices, but they are no less convenient. Just hang them above your work surface and arrange the spice jars. To maintain aesthetics, select the same container.

10 Arrange spice jars and bags in box
Or any suitable basket. It is necessary that its size accommodates everything and there are fewer voids - otherwise the contents of the packages will crumble, and the cans will move and, sooner or later, will be damaged. Here they are fixed securely and will definitely remain intact.

11 Get creative
If you can afford a separate cupboard for spices, consider yourself lucky. Choose beautiful jars, sign them, buy fragrant condiments and arrange them nicely and evenly on the shelves. Shelves can even be open - you must admit, such a composition will only decorate the interior of the kitchen.
