Gender Party Ideas, Tips & Tricks for a Party
Finding out the sex of a baby is no easy feat these days. But you really want to share this exciting moment with family and friends! Therefore, it is not surprising that recently the gender party is on the list of popular family holidays. This is not only an occasion for a fun holiday, but also an opportunity to get closer to family members and help the expectant mother take her mind off worries about the upcoming birth of a child.
What is a gender party?
A gender party is a party at which parents-to-be reveal the gender of their child. The Americans were the first to hold such parties, but other countries also liked the idea of a gender party. Ukraine is no exception, a real wave of such parties has recently swept. Celebrities and bloggers who are preparing to become parents are happy to share photos and videos from their gender party on Instagram.
What is the essence of a gender party? Having learned the gender of the unborn child on an ultrasound scan, the parents do not want to keep the intrigue and invite their closest ones to the party. The room is decorated in blue and pink colors, and the moment when everyone present finds out whether a boy or a girl will be born becomes the culmination of the holiday.
How long does a gender party take?
You can set a date for the party as soon as you receive information about the baby's gender from the doctor. As a rule, this happens at week 15, but sometimes you have to wait a bit. And some parents keep the intrigue as long as possible.
Gender Party Balloon
One of the most popular ways to reveal the main secret of a party is a huge ball of neutral color. Before inflating, it is filled with contents of a certain color, and at the most solemn moment it is pierced with a pin.
How can I fill the ball to determine the sex of the child? There are a lot of interesting ideas:
- small balloons with helium, which, at the moment of bursting a large balloon, fly up, causing a storm of delight among guests;
- small balloons of air that simply fly around the room;
- blue or pink metafan, which shatters just as spectacularly when a large ball bursts;
- balloons and metafan is a 2 in 1 delight.
gender party options
Depending on where you plan to celebrate the gender party, you can choose the options for holding it. With a skillful approach, even in a small apartment, you can have a great party.
If the space permits, think about how to organize a photo zone decorated in feminine (pink, peach) and masculine (blue, light blue) colors. For decoration, you can use colored paper, toys, balls. In a small room, limit yourself to an interesting table setting and an interior decorated in two colors.
When organizing a gender party on the street, there is room for imagination. Here there is a place for a photo zone, and there will be a place to accommodate a large number of guests, as well as to hold contests. The main thing in this case is to guess with the weather. If it is cold outside, we recommend holding active contests on the street, and organizing a feast in a cafe or apartment.
Making an original gender party: ideas
The most anticipated moment of the holiday is when everyone present finds out the gender of the child. In addition to the giant ball, there are many other ideas that will help make this moment bright and unforgettable.
Box with balls. A huge box filled with helium balloons that will fly into the air when you open the box. It will look very impressive in nature, then the balls will fly into the sky.
Surprise cake is a classic gender party. This option is suitable not only for a fun party, but also for a small holiday in the family circle. The main secret lies in the filling of the cake, the color of which depends on the gender of the child. As soon as the parents cut off the first piece, everything will become clear.
Colorful fireworks. At the end of the party, when the guests have plenty of fun and take pictures, blue or pink fireworks rise into the air.
Smoke grenades. Another option that is suitable for a holiday on the street. At the climax, smoke bombs are lit, with smoke of the corresponding color.
T-shirt for the expectant mother. You will need a plain white T-shirt and two colors of fabric dye. Your assistant will have an envelope with the gender of the child. After that, the future parents are blindfolded, and the father's hands are dipped in paint with the desired color. Then he should approach the expectant mother from the back and gently hug her stomach, leaving handprints. At this point, you can remove the bandages so that everyone can see the color of the paint.
Photo mosaic. At the entrance to the party, each guest receives a photo fragment with a number. On a special board, all the guests stick the pieces of the photo in the appropriate places, and when all the fragments are in place, it will become clear whether it is a boy or a girl.
An exciting quest. Turn the party into an exciting adventure! Let your guests complete tasks, look for clues, and gradually get closer to the goal - an envelope with the baby's gender.
Shadow theater. A very nice way to tell the gender of the unborn baby. With the help of a theatrical show, guests are shown a love story and who will be born - a boy or a girl.
Shooting balls. Prepare a special balloon wall. Place a clue in one of the balls. Then use the darts to try to hit the target.
Gifts for a gender party
Not only future parents, but also guests should prepare for the holiday. And here the main question arises: what to give for a gender party? The main criterion when choosing a gift is that it should be useful and suitable for both a boy and a girl. Here is a small list of possible gifts for the baby and his parents:
- teats and feeding bottles;
- diaper cake;
- cosmetics for mother and child;
- rattles;
- bibs;
- pregnancy books;
- pregnancy pillow;
- thermos for bottles;
- backpack for mom.
Gender party is your baby's first holiday, so try to make it bright, memorable and filled with the love of loved ones.

Actually there are no rules for this event. The point is for parents-to-be to share news about their baby in a special and memorable way with those they care about.
If you are planning a gender reveal party, here are some tips to help you plan.
Invitations
It's entirely up to you when you want to have a sex reveal party during your pregnancy. Of course, setting a date for a party without first having an ultrasound to determine the sex of the baby can be risky, even if your appointment is scheduled before the party. You may need a follow-up appointment for confirmation and this may throw off your party date.
Try to send out invitations at least four weeks in advance, or six to eight weeks in advance if guests are traveling. Also, include a brief description of the gender reveal party on the invitation for guests who may not know. And let the guests know what kind of food will be served as well as how to dress formally/casually as these parties come in all shapes and sizes.
Gifts
Unlike a baby shower, guests should not be expected to bring gifts to a floor opening party. Of course, many guests will still feel obligated to bring something to you as both the host of the house and the parents-to-be. If you're also going to have a baby shower, consider including a gender-revealing message on the invitation that no gifts are required. This way, guests invited to both events won't feel obligated to buy two gifts for you.
However, if the gender reveal party is also a baby shower, you can include a gift list on your invitation. Just make sure your registry entries don't give away your child's gender based on gender stereotypes. Before an important opening, you can add neutral items to the registry, such as books and diapers.
Big Opening
Save your big opening until about the middle of the party. This way, all your guests are likely to arrive by this point. And they'll have time to create excitement by talking to each other to try and guess the baby's gender. To create tension, you can ask the guests to vote on how they think the sex will be by wearing special stickers for girls or boys or something like that.
The moment everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived. A big opening should be something, well, big so that all the guests can enjoy it at the same time. What you don't want is to do something subtle or confusing.
By far the most common way people reveal their baby's gender is through food. Often we are talking about a cake with a neutral decoration on the outside and colored icing on the inside - predictably pink for a girl and blue for a boy. Then, when it's time for the big opening, someone cuts the cake to show the inside to the guests. You can also hand out individual cupcakes with colored icing inside and ask guests to take a bite out of their cupcakes at the same time for a big opening.
Please note that parents do not need to know their child's gender prior to the party. In fact, many parents prefer to find this out directly with their guests. For example, with a cake opening, a parent can bring their ultrasound results to the bakery without looking at them first and describe what they want from the cake. Or they could let a friend see the results and ask him to do the cake.
If you don't want to go with the checked cake, other ideas include:
- Pop an opaque balloon containing pink or blue confetti.
